City-Wide Tenant Union of Rochester (CWTU). | Building tenant power and elevating housing to a human right. #StabilizeRoc#HouseNY | Venmo: @roc-tenantunion
NEW: We are expanding rent stabilization across upstate & LI! Tenants are half the state. We need affordable rents NOW.
A new bill from @BrianKavanaghNY and @sarahana will end costly, landlord-rigged barriers to rent stabilization.
The strongest possible version of Good Cause eviction protections are slated to go to vote this month. Rochester would be the largest city in the state to adopt the law. https://t.co/2EQg7hhYMJ
Join us Dec 12, 6:00-7:30 PM, at Lewis Street YMCA, Rochester, for a discussion on energy efficiency in rental properties. We'll tackle challenges like the split incentive issue and brainstorm sustainable solutions. Drive meaningful change 👉Register here: https://t.co/0i0YHnZnow
Every tenant deserves a safe, stable home. I stood with @RocTenantUnion and told Rochester City Council we need strong #GoodCause Eviction Protections! Sign the petition here. https://t.co/Zgz9K9fZPl
Good Cause Eviction protections are going to vote next month, with the unit exemption dropping from less than 10 to one, matching cities around NY that have passed the bill.
BREAKING: Rochester City Council is voting on #GoodCause on December 17 -- and @MMelendez86 pledged to close loopholes to make it the strongest version possible.
Hundreds of thousands of #ROC tenants could be protected from rent hikes and unfair evictions in less than a month.
Despite the deep pockets of the real estate industry, Rochester tenants never gave up. We know what’s at stake: the stability of our families and our neighbors.
Now, it's time for Council to follow through and pass the strongest possible version of #GoodCause in December.
Rochester could become the biggest city with #GoodCause in December -- marking the biggest expansion of protections against rent hikes and unfair evictions since April.
When tenants fight for our homes, we win.
This 👏 is 👏why 👏we 👏need 👏good 👏cause 👏 now
“she faced retribution from her landlord after she called code enforcement in September. A week after she called to complain, her landlord tacked a letter to her door telling her she was being evicted”

Any property owner who owns one or more units would be covered by Rochester's Good Cause, under recommendations made in a Council report today. That recommendation aligns with every other New York city that has opted in.

90% (!) of Rochester residents supported #GoodCause at hearings. City Council can listen to the people and pass this legislation THIS MONTH.
@MMelendez86, let's get this done!

BREAKING: Rochester City Council's report backs opting into #GoodCause & closing loopholes that leave 10,000s unprotected.
Now let's pass these protections -- so no tenant must face unfair rent hikes or no-cause evictions.
Tell Council to act NOW: https://t.co/YuJDYr7gHq
As sponsor of the bill, we need President Melendez's support to amend #GoodCause to cover the majority of tenants and bring it to a vote. His support is key. I'm hopeful the report he plans to release will pave the way for its passage before the holidays.

I’m confused. President of City Council wants credit for introducing Good Cause even though he won’t say if he’s voting for it.
He also calls pressuring him to vote yes “misplaced advocacy.” Uh, people who want reps to vote a certain way…advocate. https://t.co/hHSlL9PTND
I am horrified by Mr. Drouin's comments. Landlords' concerns should be heard, but this is not the way to oppose good faith legislation.
We all need to work together on housing affordability. That means respecting each other and not resorting to offensive extremist rhetoric.
The head of the an Upstate landlord lobby group just compared Good Cause Eviction to...the Holocaust.
#ROC Landlord Matt Drouin's remarks are blatantly disrespectful both to victims of the Holocaust and tenants struggling to keep a roof over their heads.
