As part of our commitment to training & preparedness, RPD is conducting training exercises near 2nd St. SW & 6th Ave SW. The Emergency Response Unit is participating in drills on 5/18 until 4 p.m. Expect ERU members in green uniforms and emergency vehicles in the area.
May 14, 5:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of 41 St NW where a man was shot outside an apartment building. Preliminary investigation indicates it was not random. While the suspect has not yet been located, there is no known threat to the general public.
RPD is actively investigating a shooting near Essex Park in northwest Rochester. Please avoid the area. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
It's w heavy hearts we share the sudden & unexpected passing of K9 Piper. She died May 6 from a congenital heart failure. K9 Piper was more than a working dog, she was a dedicated partner to her handler & a beloved member of the RPD family. Her presence will be deeply missed.
RPD is excited to announce the return of Safe City Nights, a series of community events held across #RochMN. This summer, RPD will host four Safe City Nights events, each featuring free food, activities and opportunities for community members to connect with police officers.
RPD received 86 reports of auto thefts in 2025 – that’s about a 30 percent decrease from 2024. Still, many of the thefts involved vehicles that had keys left inside or were left running. Always bring your keys with you and avoid the temptation to let your car warm up unattended.
When it’s cold out, it’s tempting to leave your car running “just for a minute” — but don’t! Unattended, running cars are easy targets for thieves. Be safe and shut it off.
Clear out your medicine cabinet to prevent potential theft or misuse of your unused medications. #TakeBackDay is coming up Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10-2 at Mayo Family Clinic Northeast (3041 Stonehedge Dr. NE). RPD is joining the DEA to collect and dispose unneeded medications.
Our hearts are w those impacted by the tragic shootings at a church and school in Mpls. In Rochester, our SROs & patrol officers continue to serve as a steady presence in our schools & community. We have also increased uniformed patrols around schools in light of today's events.
⚠️RPD is at the scene of a two-vehicle injury accident on 37th St. NW at 3rd Ave NW. Lane closures are in place and people are asked to avoid the area if possible. One person was injured. The Forensic Mapping Unit is on scene to investigate.

Congratulations to Capt. Jennifer Hodgman! She is the first woman at RPD promoted to captain. She also recently graduated from the elite FBI National Academy in Quanitico, VA. The 10-week academy focuses on advanced communication, leadership and fitness training.
