I remember the day I realized that the anti-GMO activists fighting Monsanto were actually HELPING big ag.

The more fear and anger driven into the public, the more regulations and bureaucracy was put in place.

This meant no new companies could ever compete with huge established corporations.

If you had a new chemistry or genetically engineered trait it was worthless because small companies can’t get past the regulation.

Companies like Monsanto could offer a lowball offer because the new company had no hope of getting through the insane red tape.

Sure all of the people regulatory workers inside Monsanto were appalled by how stupid the regulations were, they couldn’t see this was a major competitive advantage.

Once you see the pattern - you realize this is a law of bureaucratic capitalism, there is no way to avoid it: be first, make the regulation a crazy steep climb, never worry about competitors again.

There’s no such thing as a natural monopoly, only government can create the conditions for monopoly.
