@Oosha_omobadan I'm Rokeebat. I run a brand RBEE bags, where I make and sell handmade bags.
My greatest challenge is getting an industrial machine to step up my game in bag making.
I know no one sent me a message but I want to share this with you in case someone needs it.
Dear international traveIers, anyone traveIing to Nigeria, this post is for you.
The moment you book your fIight to come into Lagos, Nigeria, please do yourself a favour and hold small currency.
Dollar is widely accepted so when coming, just take like $2OO and break them down to $1O, $2O and even $1. Also, buy a lot of chocolates and pack them as the last item in your box.
Packs of chocolates are better. You can get the duty-free chocolates.
Now, once you land in Nigeria, the first thing that welcomes you is the heat. After that is a different body odour so get ready for that. Trust me, all these can make you want to change your mind and go back to wherever you may be coming from but remember why you made up your mind to traveI in the first place and use that as a consolation. Alright?
After alighting from the pIane, you’re heading to the belt to pick up your luggage.
I’m sorry, In Nigeria they don’t use belts, they throw your luggage on the floor. They fling boxes anyhow as if they're refuse bags.
Don’t be off€nded, that’s how they do it.
You get in and the whole place looks like a forest of luggage. Different boxes on the floor and you do not know where to start looking for yours.
The next thing you see are the airport boys with the trolley and they’ll ask you, "what’s your name so I can help get your box?"
Dear traveIer, do NOT lgnore them. Yes, you might see them as thi€ves or something n€gative but the moment you say, "No", they will disappear, and imagine you searching for your box amid over 500 boxes. Where do you want to start? How will you start? When will you even find the box? All that stress?
No need! When they approach you, accept their offer and give them your name. They’ll search and get your luggage.
Once they pack everything onto the trolley, do NOT pay them immediately! I repeat DO NOT PAY THEM IMMEDIATELY.
They’ll sweet talk you and tell you that you should pay them before getting to Customs. Omo! Do not say a word. Just bon€ your fac€ and fac€ front. They can’t leave you neither can they go with the boxes 'cos you haven’t paid them.
When you get to customs, be bold! Smile and be bold. When they ask, "what’s in all the boxes?" Simply joke with them and say, "na clothes and chocolates full there, abi you wan dey search chocolates?" (This is what I’ve been doing). They already have the screening machine so it’s enough.
If they decide to search, that’s a lot of time you’d waste. At this point, when they release you, you can dash them small dollars. $1O is okay. At least that’s what I do.
Apply the same method with the lmmigration and the rest.
When you’re done with all protocols, do not release the trolley guy o. Make sure he took those boxes to the car park.
In Nigeria, the car park is a bit far from the airport so you might need to wear sneakers while traveling.
You can dress sporty but try to be as simple as possible 'cos of the stress.
When you get to the car park and your loved one drives out, allow the trolley guy to pack the luggage into the booth. Then pay him. At this point, you can give them anything from your conscience. I usually give them N2,000 with plenty of thank you and prayers. Just tell whoever is picking you to hold Naira.
When you finally arrive home, so many visitors and friends and chiIdren will expect you to dash them something. It’s normal here. This is where your change comes into play. Dash them dollars. $1 or $1O depending on their ages and who they are to you. They’ll be happy and appreciate the dollar more than the naira. This is solely your decision. You can gift material things and chocolates. All your choice!
Meanwhile, I heard Abuja airport is san€r than Lagos so you might want to try that route when entering Nigeria.
I hope this helps.
Happy Weekend from your favorite famzer.
