@RDLaverty Thank you for your article on Theopolis entitled A Story in Names. In it you say that "When a world made by speaking and naming has come undone, Adam perceives that to be remade it must be renamed."
I cannot find in Genesis if and where this occurs. Can you help?
The essence of self-righteousness is always finding someone else to blame for the consequences of your own mistakes. Genuine Christianity is a real time trust in Christ (paying the eternal penalty for your sin) and owning the temporal discipline enacted upon your mistakes.
Dr. Piper with one of the best head-fakes I’ve ever seen in preaching! He had the whole room going one way… until he went with that crossover move. And it led us all to worship.

Result → You begin to rely upon your performance of that practice for righteousness, rather than the finished work of Christ, (and free gift of being fully JUSTIFIED in Him) .....
Legalism = the prioritization of any good practice above the gospel, in such a way that your performance of that practice subverts the operation of grace through the gospel in your life. (1 of 3)
Not many men will be war heroes like President Bush. Even fewer will serve in high office like he did. But every man can learn from one who loved his wife deeply until death parted them. In our day, that may be the most heroic example of all. RIP George H.W. Bush
The essence of all worship is exalting / extolling / enjoying someone ELSE with someone else. Worship gets us outside of us, and you can see that on display at sporting events, concerts, and (rightfully) in church.
You who believe have just as much righteousness as Abraham. You are in the same standing before God as Paul or Peter....because, you have been given the holiness of Christ HIMSELF! Astounding. Now worship.
Don’t expect God to meet you at the shrine of people pleasing.
You come up EMPTY there, so that you will realize you must turn away from that craving and serve HIM (whose love and approval you have in full measure because of Christ!)
