the easy way to do 2D shadows looked terrible.
so i built a 3D mesh system instead... in a 2D game.
now every shadow adjusts dynamically based on light direction.
because of course i did.

It's insane how Crypt of the Necrodancer OST is, to this day, one of the best of all time. I've been listening to it non-stop, and it always gets me going!
dressed up as a janitor just to make a pause menu.
filmed it in real life, then animated frame by frame
in pixel art on top. it's called rotoscoping.
looks like one of those hyperrealistic SpongeBob scenes.
i love it.

@kinetizen@MakoFukasame Sorry, what are you talking about here? The game has zero AI art; it's all hand-drawn by me (a programmer; that's why it's not really perfect lol). Maybe you just haven't seen this technique yet, it's called rotoscoping. Definitely recommend checking it out!
@Guhguhguh8 Thank you so much! That's done! The video shows a slightly older version of the game. I've responded to the tweet with a screenshot of how it's currently looking, if you wanna check it out :)
@Folkzweise Thanks for the feedback! Nothing is really "final" (ever). To give an example, I've seen a lot of comments here saying that the animation was a bit slow; therefore, I've already changed this in the game 😭
@LutZ_Composer Fala mano!
@GodzillaCheeze It's called rotoscoping; you can do it with anything, really! Just record whatever you want, export the videos as images, and then draw on top of the PNGs!
@kurorosage Thank you! Right now, I only have the pause menu as a manually filmed feature, but someone here commented on using rotoscoping for a giant hand boss, this is likely going to happen now😭
