Brexiters destroyed Britain’s future, says former Bank of England governor
Mr Carney said: “Some right-wing populists see current anxieties as an opportunity to stoke anger because anger is what’s necessary for their project. After all, people don’t demolish things when they are positive or optimistic.
“I know this from my time in the UK, where for years the rallying cry of Brexiteers has broken Britain, and their solution to take back control was actually code for tear down your future.”

Politicians like Nigel Farage can’t be trusted to remain impartial. That’s why I’m telling @Ofcom to ban politicians from presenting on news channels to stop any bias on our news before the General Election. Can you sign too? https://t.co/OCuDO6WyKF
A village in Sweden might be the best place to go for the best chance of seeing the #AuroraBorealis!
Why? Because of a meteorological phenomenon called a 'blue hole' which keeps skies clear no matter the weather patterns around it.

‘The New York Times analysed 1,200 contracts worth nearly $22bn and found that roughly half went to companies run by friends and associates of Conservative party politicians, or with no experience in that area.’ 1/n https://t.co/rneSymgmyA
Last summer, my son, then 9, swam in an English river and suffered 6 whole days of diarrhoea and vomiting. It was very worrying. His friend was almost hospitalised. And now we’re told the only way we can have more houses is by sacrificing any hope of cleaning up our waterways. It’s so depressing. Humanity can surely be better than this.
@theAliceRoberts This is one of the two sewage plants in Copenhagen. It has the capacity to clean sewage water from 750.000 people. It's so effective that people can bathe safely in the harbour.
The waste is used to make biogas, supplying 60% of the gas needed in Copenhagen.
Pure win win.
What people still don't understand even today is that generally speaking the EU is on the side of individuals (eg new laws on ensuring drinking water quality, or on giving train travellers more rights) whereas the Tories see people as an impediment to maximising company profits.
A valuable thread 🧵. It explains a lot. The UK needs to be following the science not the oil money. Vote them out. Opposition parties must work together.
I just signed the petition calling on @ofcom to make sure their rules are able to hold ALL news channels to account - and properly enforce them on GB News . Will you sign too?

What planet does Sunak & Tories live on? Clearly not the one which is currently on fire - “Sunak suggests he could delay or abandon ‘unfair’ net zero pledges” https://t.co/zigkscl84E
Every summer I complain when I sit with a blanket at my desk at the end of July but I’m rather glad at the moment that I’m in cold Northern European summer (with my blanket).
The shamelessness of people like Daniel Hannan & Douglas Carswell talking about the decline of our country when they were culpable makes me so angry.
Not only that, but many of their fellow ideologs have either left the country, taken up other citizenship or golden visas abroad – yet they continue to pontificate from afar, rather than staying and fighting.
I for one will not stop fighting against the hypocrisy, self-interest and ideological cultism that continues to hurt millions of Brits #Brexit
If you feel the same, please think about joining me and my fellow @VoteTrueAndFair parliamentary candidates, team and supporters.
We will fight to fix #brokenbritain

Britain is now a poor nation. This is the number one issue we face – yet our leaders ignore it @Telegraph

In 44 yrs since I first voted, 31 yrs has been a Tory govt where all that we, the population, owned (nationalised) has been sold...electricity production & distribution, phone networks, rail networks, gas distribution, water...what have I missed? Let's do a list together
Headline below is from Telegraph!
I just signed the petition urging @RishiSunak to sign and rejoin the EU Horizon research and innovation programme. Desperately needed by science. Will you sign too? https://t.co/zzPJAWcxXp via @38degrees
Please support Carol Vorderman - a lot of powerful people don’t want her to be holding the government to account.
They might have the power, but there’s more of us.
Carol, you’re awesome 🌟

Confettigate: A Statement From Just Stop Oil
The lady who threw confetti in Bruton yesterday was upholding a tradition that is common across many cultures. We absolutely defend the right for people to throw confetti (of whatever colour) at weddings and other celebrations.
If it was a form of protest — which is yet to be established — we applaud it and thank the person concerned. It was peaceful and not especially disruptive, but got massive media attention for Just Stop Oil’s demand.
It has also helped people to recall that George Osborne, one of the main architects of economic austerity, is directly responsible for over 300,000 excess deaths, and that — as a newspaper editor — he was responsible for some of the most egregious climate-denying nonsense ever to darken the pages of mainstream mass media.
However, as much as we applaud the use of orange confetti at this wedding, we were not responsible.
Perhaps the press could focus on something more important now? Like the current government’s plans to licence over 100 new oil and gas projects, which will result in excess deaths the likes of which we have never seen. Or the fact that the UN Secretary General has said that ‘climate change is out of control’ as we’ve just seen the hottest average temperatures since records began. Or the fact that Canadian wildfires have now burned down an area the size of Portugal.
We are in catastrophically dangerous territory and the press have a moral responsibility to inform and educate people as to the causes of the crisis so that we can take action to defend ourselves. In 2023, it is simply criminal not to check your facts.
This is absolutely shocking. When did we lose our compassion & humanity? How did we ever allow these people anywhere near high office? I refuse to believe that this Government speaks for the majority in this country. We are so much better than this
