In my opinion, Everton in its current state will not be able to attract Glasner or Iraola - i.e. managers who are proven. Both took teams who outperformed Everton & have earned their shot at an elite / near elite club. Glasner is now in the running for AC Milan, Iraola gone to RS.
Its not about ambition, its about reality. Everton are not elite now - although we should be in 3-4 years.
A manager's career is precarious & many bright ones have had their reputations ruined by wrong moves (Potter, Rosenior, Lampard, Silva, Alonso etc).
What Everton have to do - I suggest - is to find the *next* Iraola/Glasner.
Bournemouth & Palace have now both lined up relatively low profile replacements. Brighton did that with Hurzeler & Brentford with Andrews.
We can overtake these clubs if we find our own - as we will in the next couple of seasons start generating serious revenues which gives us a bigger budget.
But, that means settling in a proper structure with people who check in their egos at the door.
I can also understand why people think we should be able to attract Glasner but unfortunately managerial talent is in short supply & the demand for his services is incredible.
AC Milan - a behemoth - is actively considering giving Ragnick & Glasner full control. To understand how momentous this is, they literally sacked everyone (CEO, Sporting Director & Allegri, their last coach) to clear the decks. That was after finishing 5th and missing UCL by a couple of points, having been in the top 3 for 2/3 of the season.
They have none other than Zlatan as a board advisor (who invested cash in the club) who could end up being sidelined.
That's how badly they want Glasner & Ragnick & that's the type of competition we face when a proven manager becomes available.
Even Marco Silva - who is trophyless in his career - may end up at Benfica as successor to Mourinho (Real Madrid bound).
In other words, never mind Glasner & Iraola, even mid-table PL managers are finding plum jobs.
Managerial talent is in short supply & so I think Moyes' eventual successor might have to be 'discovered' by us.
The key to getting the next appointment right is making sure our Sporting Leadership team itself has a high level of competency (a factor which is currently still unknown).
Sense in market that Hayden Hackney's contractual situation means he should represent good value this summer. Everton have tracked him for 2+ years & want at least one CM
Champ data considered outstanding, hence widespread interest

This *is* a test of how ambitious the manager, CEO & owners really are. You tell United to f*ck off & send a sharp signal to your players & fans that you are going to build a strong squad.
Bring in quality additions & N'Diaye will should be happy to stay without a release clause
An utterly nonsensical, out of touch retort. Britain is an outlier in the G7 on the cost of debt. Why?
British taxes are at their highest share of GDP since the war. Why?
Britain's productivity has collapsed post COVID. Why?
You cannot fix problems because you don't even understand what they are.
The end of the season for Everton has been an anti climax and its also definitely fair to say
(a) Iraola has done wonders for Bournemouth - quality manager who would improve alot of teams
(b) Bournemouth have done brilliantly & overperformed
(c) Everton have probably been at par this season vs their squad cost/wages (we should be 14th-15th) BUT we really screwed up the last 2 months when Europe was within reach, notably in defence. So manager & players need to reflect on the criticism
(d) the £110m we spent in the summer was not enough to lift our squad cost to top 8; much more spending is needed.
*But*. Some of the framing needs to come back to constraints in our finances - and that should NOT be taken as a defence of Moyes, because its factual, regardless of the manager.
Because if Iraola or Glasner is to be manager, there is substantial investment still needed in this squad & our recruitment needs to significantly improve.
Going into the 24/25 season Bournemouth had a squad cost £170m *higher* than Everton (!) and a wage bill on par.
This is all from a revenue only slightly lower than Everton - the 25,000 higher gates Everton had compared to Bournemouth represents a £15m difference in turnover (£197m for us vs £182m for them). The bulk of turnover comes from broadcasting & sponsorship.
Bournemouth also had no historic PSR issue nor burdened by large stadium related interest so they were able to spend more of their revenues then we were over several years before.
*As a result, they have built an impressive squad*.
Moving to 25/26, we were only able to spend £110m to improve the squad cost due to PSR. This took us from bottom 3 squad cost to 14th/15th squad overall.
In 25/26, Bournmouth, (whose squad cost was £170m higher than ours to begin with) sold brilliantly: almost £300m raised from the sale of 5 key performers. They replaced them by spending £160m on 7 players, from where 4 have been outstanding.
Clearly their recruitment was excellent: but it has been excellent for many years and they have been able to spend more freely than us (£400m squad cost in 24/25 vs £233m for us)
So the key point is this. With ditching of PSR and the move to SCR, plus our higher revenues from the new stadium our spending power & flexibility has gone up. It would have been even higher had we made it to Europe, but even so, its a much better position than last summer.
From this summer onwards, and with a new leadership team settling down - we can match Bournemouth in the transfer market & who we bring in, and how we do next season, and can be judged more fairly.
If we don't improve significantly, there is no defending/mitigating it anymore.
All this is not a defence of Moyes or saying we should lower our expectations. Its reality & affects whoever the manager is & whatever our expectations are.
