@rustynew386@okinamatarajin@turning_point43 This is correct. We can’t date trans men, like it or not, because of their anatomy. We’re not likely to date trans women because of their aesthetic. It doesn’t have mass appeal.
@Perpetual_Rev@MassachusettsXY@rustynew386 I’m afraid I do. And trying to redefine being gay into something it isn’t is flatly homophobic. All of us had to fight and struggle to get to a place where we could accept that trying to be attracted to women wasn’t going to work. That’s why this attempted reframe is so hurtful.
@Perpetual_Rev@MassachusettsXY@rustynew386 Not for homosexual men it isn’t - not one bit. Have you met us? Not male? Not the slightest chance of any attraction. Even if we wanted to, we’re not wired for any version of bisexuality.
@RealAmericanLeo Also, what you’re saying is not unprecedented- there have been times when we have done exactly what you’re suggesting effective praxis should be. Eg getting rid of sodomy laws. We wanted the behavior decriminalized, and we accomplished that, and that had a huge positive impact.
@RealAmericanLeo Yeah, I get that. The thing is, sexual orientation is by its nature an aspect of a physiologic process, hard to measure currently but still an objective thing, which is different from behavior, irrespective of whatever that means for trans rights.
@RealAmericanLeo Metaphysically, I don’t think you want sexual orientation to be appreciated as non-falsifiable. That’s what critics like me would say about gender identity.
@RealAmericanLeo We can 100% say the test measures penile tumescence, and it’s a reasonably reliable effect. All tests have false negative and false positive rates, which are studiable. To your point, we can still argue about the actual meaning of such results.
@RealAmericanLeo I don’t think any of that matters in terms of the original question. No test is perfect, but with some degree of reliability such testing will distinguish one orientation vs another.
@PompeySteph I don’t believe the concept of gender identity is accurate or a good model to explain trans, to say nothing of its nefarious origins. I don’t have one. No one can define it. It’s non-disprovable. I believe gender dysphoria exists. Sorry you find my lack of belief distressing.
@mozzer39@AlexToughTakes Being gay is not an identity. The sine qua non of homosexuality is same sex attraction, irrespective of identity. I have no issue with people who experience gender dysphoria. I’m not the one being disrespectful here. Biological sex is an organizing principle of homosexuality.
@karldinmanfor@aidannonx This crap just keeps getting recycled over and over. Just because this narrative satisfies something in the author’s psyche. No actual research points to this sort of etiology at all. None whatsoever.
@vamp1rebby@Grandeevans No they are not. This is a very hard won, tenuous space we inhabit and what you’re doing is flatly homophobic. Also bi-phobic, for that matter.
