The war for Palestine is not about random 'genocidal maniacs' with moral equivalence but ideology, empire, and material interests.

Zionism is an expansionist, eliminationist, and maximalist project that since the 1880s has sought to compromise Muslim and Arab leaders in order to steal more land in the Levant.

Hafidh al-Assad and Bashar were made dozens of offers in their careers to sell out Palestine for the sake of some narrow interest.

Hafidh al-Assad, it could be argued, may have done that when he betrayed Kamal Jumblatt in their 1976 meeting and switched his allegiance in the Lebanese Civil War from the PLO and the Lebanese National Movement to the Kata'ib phalangist Christian supremacist militia allied with the State of Israel.

Bashar al-Assad, however, was made repeated offers by King Abdallah of Saudi Arabia and others to accrue huge personal benefits if he gave up on Palestine and Lebanon, and cut ties with the Resistance. He refused. Even up until this week, the UAE's Islamophobic Zionist dictator Mohammed bin Zayed made Bashar an offer on behalf of the US to cut the Axis of Resistance, in return for the US keeping him in power. He refused.

He was made such offers because Syria was the backbone of Palestine and the Lebanese Resistance, without which both will find it very difficult to recover from a logistical perspective. The arms, money, and intelligence that are essential to fighting guerrilla warfare on a serious scale requires state support, and Syria under Bashar was the land bridge for all of those supplies reaching Lebanon and Palestine.

Did the Resistance regard Bashar as 100% reliable? No. Did he oversee a utopia? Obviously not. But 'tyrant' is an infantile description for someone who barely had control of his own armed forces for the past decade; who navigated sanctions and incredible global pressure for the sake of the Resistance; and who was the guarantor of minority rights in one of the world's oldest civilisations.
