Fianna Fáil needs to get back to basics & abandon the Hate Speech Bill etc. Focus on Housing, Health and Law & Order and stop playing to the woke gallery. Start listening to the people, stop talking down to them and stop listening to the out of touch Greens & NGOs #Referendum2024
"I think the National Women's Council, Ciara, has fundamental questions to ask itself this morning" - Gript Editor John McGuirk gave his reaction to Saturday's results on Newstalk Breakfast this morning.
The figures are startling:
73.9% was the largest NO vote in the history of referendums.
On average, across the referendums, ONLY 13% of the electorate was convinced enough to go out and vote Yes.
That figure drops to 7% in Donegal.
We cannot continue with business as usual.
Political leaders of nearly all the parties will try to draw a line under this scandal.
They should not be let do so.
Oireachtas time must be devoted to an analysis of how public representatives can be so out of touch.
Conveniently for the Government, the Oireachtas is not sitting this week. But the debate about what the No vote means, and its implications for the way we are governed, must take place without delay.
So, will the political parties in Government repay the near €20 million of taxpayers money they used to stage a standalone referendum on a wording they refused to allow proper scrutiny of?

A pro-life rally took place in Dublin city centre today to ask the Government to address what it describes as "spiralling" abortion rates
