For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will be taken out of the way and then the lawless one will be revealed.

The image presents a sobering truth: people spend their strength preparing for this life—retirement, success, comfort—yet neglect preparation for eternity. Scripture speaks directly to this imbalance.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36, KJV)
You may build wealth, secure your future, and enjoy earthly peace—but if your soul is unprepared to meet God, all of it amounts to loss. The world trains us to plan decades ahead, but the Bible urges us to consider what comes after death, which is not uncertain, but appointed:
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27, KJV)
The mistake is not in preparing for life—Scripture commends diligence—but in prioritizing the temporary over the eternal. Jesus warned against this very mindset in the parable of the rich fool:
“Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease… But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee.” (Luke 12:19–20, KJV)
This man planned for comfort but ignored eternity. His error was not wealth—it was blindness to his spiritual condition.
Eternity is not automatic; it is determined by one’s relationship with God through Jesus Christ:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6, KJV)
Preparation for eternity means repentance, faith, and a life oriented toward God:
• Repentance: turning from sin
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted…” (Acts 3:19, KJV)
• Faith in Christ:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31, KJV)
• Living with eternal perspective:
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2, KJV)
The quote calls it “the greatest mistake”—and biblically, that is accurate. To ignore eternity is to gamble your soul on temporary things.
So the question is not whether you are preparing—but what you are preparing for.
“Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:20–21, KJV)
Prepare wisely. Eternity is longer than retirement.

Lover of our souls
The Lover of souls, the Light of life, the Desire of men’s hearts, is our Lord Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He tears down the walls of world religion, and with the Sacrifice of Himself He is the Creator of the new creature. He alone is Redeemer, Savior, and King. And He is God!
Do you know Him?
