It was an honor to welcome energy leaders, workers, policymakers, advocates, and partners from across the country to Houston this week for the American Clean Power Association’s CLEANPOWER Conference. As the Energy Capital of the World, Harris County is leading the conversation on reliability, resilience, and innovation to power our future.
Last year, Texas saw more than $24 billion in clean power investment, and the industry now supports more than 125,000 jobs statewide. Together, we can keep building an energy economy that creates opportunity, strengthens communities, and keeps Texas competitive.
Be honest, Harris County. Is your hurricane kit fully stocked, or still just snacks and random batteries? 😭 Hurricane season is here. Prepare your home, make a plan, and stay informed. 📋🎒📱 Visit https://t.co/zAAdWBSeab and text GULF2026 to 888777 for hurricane alerts. 🚨🌧️
Congratulations to Houston City Council Member Joe Panzarella on being sworn in to represent District C!
CM @JoeForHouston, we wish you success in this new chapter of leadership and service and look forward to working together for the District C community.
To my friend Al Green:
Throughout your distinguished career in public service — from your time as a judge to your leadership in Congress — you have led with moral courage, always standing firmly for what is right, even when you have had to stand alone.
This past Saturday, I was overjoyed to celebrate your legacy as “The People’s Congressman” alongside hundreds of neighbors at the grand opening of Hill at Sims Park. As generations of park visitors form cherished memories and lasting community, the Congressman Al Green Pavilion will help connect people to one another, to nature, and to new opportunities for years to come.
✂️ Hill at Sims Park is officially open. I want to thank every community member, elected official, philanthropic partner, vendor, and staff member who made yesterday’s event such a success.
If you weren’t able to attend, I encourage you to come see this beautiful new park for yourself soon. From the top of that hill, the horizon feels a little wider, and the possibilities feel a little bigger.
Neighborhoods like Sunnyside have too often been told to expect less out of spaces like this. This park is a declaration that all communities matter and a reminder to dream beyond the neighborhood while embracing what’s possible right here in front of us.
The Hill at Sims Park officially opens tomorrow! 🎉
Transforming an active stormwater detention basin into a 100-acre recreational park so close to downtown Houston was no small feat, but communities like Sunnyside deserve investments that are just as bold and ambitious as those made in wealthier neighborhoods.
This new community destination provides residents with nearly 5 miles of new hike & bike trails, fishing areas, vibrant murals, and a signature hilltop pavilion offering unmatched views of Houston’s skyline.
Ready to see what we’ve been building? 👀
Join us TOMORROW for our free community celebration!

I was honored to attend Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s press conference honoring Dr. Tapia and his impact on mathematics and STEM education. The Houston Ship Channel bridge naming honors a true trailblazer, and the bridge stands as a symbol of bridging gaps in opportunity for our kids.
I was honored to attend Beaumont Foundation of America’s 2026 Reaud Excellence in Education Award Gala at Lamar University, joined by Judge Genesis Draper. The event celebrated 15 outstanding Southeast Texas teachers, each receiving $10,000 for their leadership and dedication to education.
Thank you to Wayne A. Reaud, founder of Reaud, Morgan & Quinn, for his ongoing commitment to recognizing excellence in education. Education is the key to a better future, and these teachers are exemplary leaders in our community.
Before Alma A. Allen was Representative Allen, before she was Dr. Allen, she was Miss Allen — my third-grade teacher in Room 111 at Grimes Elementary.
Today, it was my honor to join Sunnyside community leaders, fellow elected officials, philanthropic partners, family, and friends to officially dedicate a defining feature of the new Hill at Sims Park: the Dr. Alma Allen Bridge. This striking bike and pedestrian bridge rightly honors a leader who has inspired generations of Texans from our neighborhood and beyond to dream bigger and aim higher.
Dr. Allen has spent her life advocating for Sunnyside, for public education, and for justice. Countless people, including me, would not be where they are today without her.
It’s only fitting that a bridge built to connect people — and built to last long after we’re gone — bears the name of someone whose life’s work has always been about helping others move toward greater opportunity.
I hope you’ll come see the Dr. Alma Allen Bridge for yourself this Saturday, May 30 when we officially open Hill at Sims to the community with a free celebration from 9 – 11 a.m.

This Memorial Day, I enjoyed my time with Kay Davis and community members at Tom Bass Park for “A Conversation with George” — a gathering dedicated to reflection, healing, dialogue, and honoring the life and legacy of George Floyd.
In 1972, the Honorable Barbara Jordan — a fearless leader and dedicated representative of Houston’s historic 18th congressional district — sent me a letter congratulating me on my high school graduation. What may have seemed like a small gesture left a lasting impact on me and helped ignite my commitment to public service.
Every year, I’m proud to continue that tradition by recognizing rising seniors across our community.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026!
The dedication of the Sheila Jackson Lee Terminal E at George Bush Intercontinental Airport is a fitting tribute to a fearless leader, proud Houstonian, and tireless advocate whose impact on our city and nation will never be forgotten.
From her years of service as a Municipal Judge and City Council Member to her decades in Congress, Congresswoman Jackson Lee dedicated her life to fighting for the people of Houston. Her legacy of leadership, service, and advocacy will continue to inspire generations to come, and it’s only right that her name now holds a permanent place in the city she loved so deeply.
Congratulations to my friend Christian Menefee on a well-run race. I know you will continue to do great work for the people of TX-18, and look forward to continuing our work together.
I'd also like to honor my dear friend Al Green. During your time in Congress, you have consistently fought for your constituents, spoken with strength and moral clarity, and raised issues with unmatched courage. History will fondly remember your contributions to our community and to our country.
Congratulations to my good friend Darrell Jordan on tonight's victory. As a key leader in the fight for nonviolent misdemeanor bail reform, you have already made great change for our county. I look forward to continuing to work with you as our next district clerk.
On to November!
Today, I am reflecting on Memorial Day. Started as a way of honoring Union troops for their sacrifice in the fight for freedom and equality, Memorial Day honors those who have died in service to our country.
Please have a meaningful Memorial Day.

Dr. Richard Tapia was a brilliant mathematician, a trailblazing educator and a proud son of Mexican immigrants who spent his life opening doors for others. His legacy lives on in the generations of students he mentored, the barriers he broke and the bridge that now bears his name. My heart goes out to his family, the Rice community, and all who loved and learned from him.

‼️ NEW DATE ‼️ Due to inclement weather conditions, the grand opening and community celebration for Hill at Sims Park is rescheduled for Saturday, May 30.
I was born and raised in Sunnyside, and for far too long, families in this community have gone without access to the kind of quality greenspace other neighborhoods take for granted. Hill at Sims changes that.
🌳 This is the only major greenspace in or around Sunnyside — a 100-acre park that transforms flood control infrastructure into a place for recreation, connection, and community.
Shaped by the community and built to serve it for generations, the park includes:
🚲 4.5 miles of new hike-and-bike trails
🧺 Accessible gathering spaces
🏙️ Scenic overlook areas with panoramic views
🌉 A pedestrian and bicycle bridge
🎣 A water access pier
🎨 Vibrant murals
... all while continuing to provide critical flood protection for surrounding neighborhoods.
Come out for a morning of family-friendly activities, community resources, and time spent together outdoors.
This is your park, and we can’t wait to celebrate it with you!
