Is #EV demand real? @VW sees 10,000 orders in less than 24 hours. Now imagine what demand would be like with 300+ models to choose from across all OEM's. It all starts next year - where will all the batteries come from? #lithium

.@GalanLithium's pitch is simple: don’t build the whole carbonate complex first. Produce chloride, generate cash flow, scale later.

Quebec rocks! And smelts! With super clean, low cost hydro power.
Note Rio Tinto's Aluminium & Lithium Chief Executive Jérôme Pécresse quote below...and think what might he say very soon about spodumene to hydroxide at Becancour.

“For 100 years, Quebec has been at the heart of the aluminium industry, and with AP60, Rio Tinto is now strongly positioned for decades to come with one of the most advanced smelting technologies operating at commercial scale. This milestone brings into production the first major primary aluminium project in the West in more than a decade and demonstrates Rio Tinto’s ability to deliver world-class, low-carbon technologies.

Lithium was the easy on-ramp. The next critical minerals trade is messier:
Tungsten, scandium, rare earths, China exposure and who funds the West’s supply chain rebuild.

Why did the CEO of @MPMaterials suggest that heavy rare earth prices could fall? Probably because of GBD. To understand what GBD is and what impact it might have on heavy rare earth demand, check out my blog.
GBD technology doesn’t kill DyTb demand. It makes scarce heavy rare earth supply go further.
But if magnet demand grows anywhere near expectations, the supply challenge remains very real.

Highest grade rare earth discovery in the U.S. in history, with grades up to 45% TREO….when the comps struggle to have 2% TREO
Largest carbonatite pipe niobium and REE exploration project globally, just down the road from CBBM in Goias, Brazil
The Alpha IAC rare earth project in Bahia, of similar grade and massive scale as Serra Verde
Constellation IAC project in Minas Gerais with the same exceptional rare earth clay grades as Meteoric and VMM

2/On my estimates we could see a net 1.2Mt increase in ex-China SpodCon supply in 2026, mostly in the second half of the year. Demand remains pretty strong and will likely accelerate in the second half as well if oil prices stay high, so will that be enough to offset the higher supply or not? Time will tell and I think we are looking at shorter inventory-led minicycles over the course of the year.
Gabriel Rubacha, CEO of NOA Lithium, joined @RKEquityRocks to break down the Rio Grande project, highlighting development flexibility, product optionality and the broader opportunity across Argentina’s lithium brine sector. The discussion also touches on the path to PFS and the potential upside across Arizaro and Salinas Grandes.

Let's talk sulphur. I first talked about sulphur in March when I cautioned that prices were set to rise and there could very well be a major shortage of this key industrial commodity. Well, that has come to pass.
But now there are quite a lot of scare stories going round about what current high sulphur prices will do to the economics of projects and I wanted to provide some more context./1

Breaking news out of Brisbane over the last 48 hours had me scrambling to re-edit Issue 113 of my Lithium-ion Bull newsletter a few times - I eventually gave up and hit send.
@ElevraLithium's USD $360M equity, convert & Ewoyaa sell-down together beefs up its treasury to fully fund stage 1-3 NAL expansions, Moblan pre-development and leaves ample $142M liquidity including for growth initiatives. $100M+ from the $15B government-backed Canada Growth Fund - which also backed Mangrove Lithium’s refinery with whom $ELVR recently signed an MOU - reinforces my view that Québec is on its way to replicate over the next decade what Western Australia achieved over the last decade.
Huayou Cobalt writing a $275M+ check to take over and build Ghana’s first lithium project is another strong sign of spodumene scarcity — and has a positive read through for @Lithium_afri’s partnership with Ganfeng Lithium.
