Third time’s the charm! I wrote this bill to expand childcare in Virginia back in 2023 and carried it 3 times. Thanks to Kathy Glazer, Karin Bowles & @lashrecseaird@ltgovhashmi for being champions in the Senate! Thank you @GovernorVA for making it law!
As we remember our incredible daughter, Maddy, my family has been deeply touched by the outpouring of support we’ve received. Thank you to everyone for your kind words.
Maddy was a deeply empathetic and engaged person. Even as recently as the day she passed, she was full of ideas and suggestions for me – especially how I could improve my social media to make a difference.
She used to say to me: “Dad, you have the power – you have to use it.” She pushed me to make the most of my position, to use my seat in the Senate to help people in meaningful ways.
If I can find any solace during this time, it’s that I have the enormous privilege to serve Virginians and the responsibility to keep working for a better, more just world in Maddy’s name.
I look forward to returning to the Senate this week and continuing that essential work.
From Northern Virginia to Fredericksburg, Richmond, Hampton Roads, Danville, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, and Leesburg… it’s been an incredible five days across the Commonwealth kicking off my campaign as Virginia’s Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate!
The President and his allies are talking about taxes that our state legislature never even voted on and I certainly didn't sign.
Why? Because if they don't flood the zone with fake news about fake taxes, people might hear about the bills I am signing to lower energy costs, strengthen our schools, make housing more affordable, and bring billions of dollars of business investment to Virginia.
Today April 11 is Super Saturday in Virginia
Early voting is taking place across the Commonwealth
Every county and city has at least one early voting location
In addition dozens of satellite locations are opening in bigger jurisdictions

BTW, the @RCPolitics false narrative piece was written by Republican Congressman @Cline4Virginia. Besides Cline’s being geographically ignorant as to where his Democratic U.S. House colleagues live, Cline found it “difficult to imagine” what rural Virginians might “have in common economically” with Fairfax residents.
According to former Republican Governor @GlennYoungkin’s 2024 Department of Taxation report, Fairfax has a total State Income Tax Liability of about $4 billion.
So, “economically,” Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Arlington Counties, account for about $7.3 billion, and the 91 counties outside of the D.C. suburbs account for about $5.8 billion combined.
Amongst Virginia’s 95 counties, those 4 “D.C. suburbs” counties contribute about 55% of the state income tax revenue, and the 91 Virginia counties outside of the “D.C. suburbs” contribute about 45%.
Cline’s claims are “geographically” ignorant and “economically” inverted. Economically proportional congressional districts would actually allocate six out of Virginia’s eleven members to the “D.C. suburbs.”
However, such underlying facts didn’t stop Cline and his fellow Republican member of Congress @JenKiggans (VA02) from pushing out their bizarro-world narrative.

Wrong. Fairfax County is 13% of Virginia’s population, and currently 9% of Virginia’s members of Congress “live in Fairfax.”Currently, Fairfax is underrepresented in the U.S. House of Representatives.
IF the referendum passes, and IF the new maps take effect, and IF a Fairfax resident were to win the CD7 primary, and IF that Fairfax person won the general election, that would bring Fairfax’s delegation in Congress to two of VA’s eleven members.
@RCPolitics’ title is that “Dems Lie” while falsely claiming that “The configuration ensures that most rural voters will be represented by people who live in Fairfax” which is actually impossible.
Fairfax County, which has 13% of Virginia’s population, could either have 9% or 18% of Virginia’s representation in Congress.
Unless @DonBeyerVA (Alexandria City), @YVindman (Prince William County), and @SuhasforVA (Loudoun County) all moved to join @JamesWalkinshaw as residents of Fairfax County, this is fake news.
@beachmamax2 No, Virginia Beach has a population of about 454k and a Congressional District in Virginia has a population of about 788k.
Virginia Beach is about 58% of a single Congressional District.
Fairfax County is about 142% of a single Congressional District.
Happy Birthday to my good friend and Virginia’s *junior* Senator, @timkaine!
From serving as my Lt. Governor to now serving Virginia together in the Senate, Virginia is better with your leadership and commitment.

Congratulations to @EBPforVA@KirkMcPike on their victories last night! Looking forward to welcoming Senator-Elect EBP to the Senate and working with Kirk in the House to help represent Northern Virginia in the General Assembly.
A major step closer to ending the Virginia car tax! 👏
.@LilyForDelegate first ever bill passed to help Virginians and lower everyday costs. Sad to see so many Va House Republicans sit this one out.
I’m thrilled to share my study to RESPONSIBLY repeal the most hated tax in Virginia, the CAR TAX, has passed subcommittee!
I appreciate @GovernorVA’s support of this bill as we work to make Virginia more affordable.
If on the road this weekend, make sure to be fully prepared!
But in all seriousness, listen to your local officials, stay off the roads, and stay safe—getting stuck on the highway for 27 hours is not fun!
What a State of the Commonwealth address by Her Excellency, Governor @SpanbergerForVA!
“We are competing against 49 other states for the best talent in the United States…
And on my watch as Governor, I do not intend to lose.
I intend for Virginia to dominate.”
