President Tinubu's economic reform earns another positive rating from Moody's
Moody’s Ratings revised Nigeria’s credit outlook to positive, citing stronger-than-expected economic growth, Bloomberg has reported.
The improvements reflect stronger external buffers and greater macroeconomic stability, while rising oil production is expected to boost growth in 2026 and 2027, according to a statement Friday. The credit grader also affirmed the nation’s rating at B3, six levels below investment grade.
The economic growth, “if sustained, would enhance the country’s capacity to absorb external shocks, strengthen economic resilience and, over time, support a gradual increase in government revenue,” analysts Jorge Valez and Matt Robinson wrote.
The outlook revision brings Africa’s largest oil producer and refiner closer to a credit-rating upgrade and emphasises President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fiscal consolidation and reforms.
@emmaikumeh You never led discussion to tackle insecurity and poverty in your region. You are living large with the looting of Nigeria money in Dubai only to come every 4yrs to contest elections. You are now so desperate spitting out rubbish. You will never be president of Nigeria 😂😂🤣🤣🤐
I used to doubt the CNG program’s viability till I took a tour of Portland Gas Energy’s Ojota station operated by my friend Jimi. Watching commercial and private vehicle operators line up to refuel at the end of the day with close to 37 cars in queue waiting, I couldn’t help but appreciate the vision and equally the investments made by a brave local entrepreneur. I spoke to a few of them and they confirmed it cost them less than 80% of petrol alternatives.
It takes bold and visionary leadership to roll out programs that creates relief and offers low cost options to citizens. This is Nigeria, not Indonesia!
Results over Noise!

NIGERIA SET TO RETURN TO FTSE RUSSELL FRONTIER MARKET STATUS
Global index provider FTSE Russell is set to proceed with Nigeria’s reclassification from “Unclassified” to “Frontier Market” status, with implementation scheduled for September 21, 2026.
Nigeria was removed from the Frontier Market category in September 2023 after international investors faced persistent difficulties accessing foreign exchange and repatriating capital. FTSE Russell has since acknowledged that FX queues have been cleared and international institutional investors are no longer experiencing material delays in repatriating capital from Nigeria.
The planned return had been placed under further review in June following Nigeria’s transition to a T+1 settlement cycle. Following clarification by the Securities and Exchange Commission that foreign investors are not required to prefund trades, the reclassification is now expected to proceed as scheduled.
Nigeria’s return to the FTSE Frontier indices is another important signal of improved FX market functioning, stronger market accessibility and renewed international investor confidence in the Nigerian economy.
Nigeria is returning to global investment benchmarks.
