Unintended benefits:
War is hell. Vietnam was a quagmire. The draft was unfair to those with lesser means, and some paid the ultimate price.

For me. I thank God it happened.

I shudder to think where I would be today.

But for hundreds of thousands of directionless young men back then, it was a life changing experience.

We learned to "get our shit together" and function under enormous stress.

We came to realize that life was not a video game.

We watched our soft, flabby bodies harden up and become resilient.

We learned to take accountability for our actions and take instruction.

When I look around at all the aimlessness and navel gazing that goes on today, I think how lucky I am.

We didn't have "teen takeovers" and we didn't have to wonder how many genders we were talking to.

Yeah, war was hell, but it had a payoff.

At my age,as you can imagine, I have a vested interest in what happens after I give up my ghost,

So obviously, I go on YouTube to watch near death survivors share their experiences in the after life.

Mostly what I hear is what a beautiful experience it is, full of unconditional love and forgiveness.

Reunions with friends and relatives and meeting their life guide.

Then you get the fire and brimstone people who say they've seen Hell, the Devil, Jesus, the blessed mother and witnessed the agonizing torture of all the bad actors throughout history.

They quote the bible chapter and verse and tell us how pissed off God is.

Those people have their best selling book just over their shoulder, a YouTube channel, a podcast, a book tour scheduled, and a "Been There, Done That" T-shirt for sale.

Very confusing.

I'll just have to find out myself. :)
