Today was a truly meaningful day in Blackburn Hamlet ( our Beacon Hill neighbours ) as we gathered for the official renaming of the Greg Kazmierski Memorial Ball Diamond. It was an honour to attend the ceremony hosted by Laura Dudas, Councillor for the area, alongside Greg’s family, friends, neighbours, current City of Ottawa representatives, and former City Councillor Rainer Bloess.
The turnout was incredible and spoke volumes about the impact Greg had on this community. Known by many as the “Mayor of Blackburn,” Greg was one of those rare people everyone seemed to know. Whether it was back in the days of the IGA or later when it became Metro, Greg was always there greeting people by name, stopping for conversations, and making everyone feel like a friend. His kindness, generosity, and constant presence made him a true cornerstone of Blackburn Hamlet for decades.
It was inspiring to see such a strong crowd gathered in recognition of a legacy built on compassion, friendship, and service to others. From now on, every player who steps onto that field will be reminded of the values Greg represented and the lasting mark he left on the community he loved so deeply.
