“From Cut-Offs to CUET: How Delhi University Rewrote India’s Admission Imagination,” has been published in ThePrint on 08 June 2026.
The article reflects on Delhi University’s important transition from the old cut-off system to CUET and the Common Seat Allocation System. This shift is not merely a technical reform in admission procedure; it signals a deeper national movement from board-mark anxiety to a more standardized, digital and preference-based admission culture.
For decades, DU admissions were associated with impossible cut-offs, anxiety, and unequal comparison across different school boards. CUET has changed the question before students. It is no longer only about how much they scored, but also about how wisely they navigate choices, preferences and opportunities.
Prof. Yogesh Singh ,Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, has rightly stressed that CUET has created a “level playing field” for students from different boards and regions. More importantly, he has pointed out that DU classrooms are now witnessing greater representation, with students from small towns, villages and diverse socio-economic backgrounds entering the university in larger numbers.
This, I believe, is the real meaning of Delhi University’s admission transformation.
