I think everyone has to consider these situations as both benefits and loss for the children.

🇦🇺EXPLAINING THE ISSUES WITH THE UNDER-16 SOCIAL MEDIA BAN AUSTRALIA🚨

Many people here on X have asked me to explain why this proposed ban is a problem.

People asked a variation of this:

"I agree we need to protect kids, but I don't know about the rest. I don't want my freedoms hurt. Can you explain why this affects me?"

Let me break this down succinctly and in an easy-to-understand way for everyone.

It will be lengthy, set aside at least 5 minutes to read.

Before I do:

Please like, repost, and, most importantly, bookmark and share this, as it helps spread the message.

If you can, get it to members and senators such as @PaulineHansonOz, @MRobertsQLD, @RodCaddies, @MLCGame, @TaniaMihailukMP, @OneNationAus, @SenatorAntic, @DavidLeyonhjelm, @Lathamunfilter, @_davidlimbrick, @TimQMLCNorthVic, and others on X.

The bill:

The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024.

The breakdown of the issues...:

1⃣ It’s Not About Protecting Kids

You MUST understand and accept this.

The government is emotionally blackmailing you with pictures and stories about teen suicides and cyberbullying.

The government claims this bill is about protecting children, but it is NOT.

Let’s remember these same politicians locked kids away during COVID.

They isolated children from friends, family, and schools, forcing them onto devices and screens, not away from them, which caused widespread mental health issues.

We knew then, and it was later confirmed, that children were the least affected by COVID, yet they bore the brunt of these harmful policies by the very same government and people who now are saying that they want to protect them.

They are trying to hoodwink you.

Additionally;

Governments are not known for prioritizing individual welfare.

Over centuries, governments worldwide have been responsible for millions of deaths and widespread suffering.

Yes, individuals have committed these acts, but they are organized and led by the power of Governments!

Why should we trust them now to act in our best interests?

Their track record says otherwise!

Do NOT fall victim to their EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL.

There are REAL ways to protect kids online, which we will discuss later...

They do not want to discuss these other methods because that is not what this is about.

2⃣ The Core Issues:

Data Privacy & Security (A)

And Freedom of Speech + Democracy (B)

A. Data Privacy and Security

The government argues that all social media companies must enforce AGE ASSURANCE to 'protect children.'

"Age assurance" is a complicated way of saying that you will likely have to produce and share your personal ID or biometric data, such as your face, thumbprint, or more, with social media companies.

I say "likely" because the government's Age Assurance technology trial is not even finished!

Yet they are trying to rush this legislation through!

How can they say we should pass this bill and enforce Age Assurance without their own trial on Age Assurance even having been completed and reviewed?

It is utter madness.

I digress.

Over 20 million Australians use social media.

This means 20 million people will likely need to upload sensitive, private information such as licenses, passports, or biometrics to not one but multiple non-Australian social media companies.

Think about the risks here!

Risk of Data Breaches and Hacks:

Social media companies have repeatedly experienced data breaches, hacks, and privacy scandals.

These companies, all together, have hundreds of thousands of employees—plus third-party contractors.

How can we trust these companies and their hundreds of thousands of employees in different countries and jurisdictions to do the right thing and secure our personal and private data?

The answer is we can't, and they have proven it over and over again.

Here is just a short list of some of the major breaches and hacks of social media:

• Facebook–Cambridge Analytica Data Scandal (2018)
• Facebook Data Leak (2019)
• LinkedIn Data Scraping (2021)
• TikTok Data Breach Rumor (2022)
• Twitter/X FBI Files (2022/2023)
• Twitter/X Bitcoin Scam Hack (2022)
• Snapchat Data Breach (2014)
• Instagram Contact Leak (2019)

These companies have proven they can't protect your data or security, yet the Australian government now wants to give them even more private data!

Madness!

Scope of Data Collection:

This policy doesn’t ask for a one-time upload to one secure entity.

Instead, Australians will likely be forced to provide licenses, passports, or biometrics (like fingerprints or facial scans) to all of the different and individual social media platforms, often using third-party apps and hardware and based in different countries with servers scattered all over the world.

Think about this:

Your sensitive data, such as your address, name, license, passport number, and face, will pass through your device, its software, and its hardware, potentially via third-party unsecured apps or unencrypted networks.

It has to pass through there to get to the social media companies.

Each pass-through will potentially store your data, exposing it to hacks, employee misuse, or foreign surveillance.

Finally, when your private and sensitive data reaches all the different individual companies, they will have to momentarily store it while confirming it for Age Assurance.

Now they will have your social media data such as phone number, email, user name, bio pictures, posts, and your license, passport, and biometric data such as face and finger scans!

If ever there was a system to steal an entire nation's personal and private data, this is it!

Your private and sensitive data will be potentially exposed to thousands of dodgy employees, surveillance agents, and hackers worldwide on many thousands of different computers and servers.

Once that data is out there, it is out there, and you can NEVER get it back.

This is a hacker’s wet dream!

By implementing such laws, we hand over a treasure trove of sensitive data to companies operating across multiple jurisdictions, such as the U.S., China, and Europe, each with its own privacy regulations or lack thereof.

For example:

TikTok, owned by ByteDance in China, has been scrutinized for its ties to the Chinese government.

American platforms have also been subject to governmental data access, as shown in the Twitter Files revelations.

But let's not forget:

Right now, Russia is fighting a war in Ukraine.

Australia strongly supports Ukraine.

Russia is allied with China.

This same Government wants all of our nation's passports, licenses, and biometric data to go to Chinese companies like TikTok and WeChat and likely their Government, which is allied with Russia and North Korea.

This is absolutely insane!

I don't want my data going to my Government, let alone the American or Chinese government, and yet this is exactly what this bill will expose us to!

In fact, it was just reported yesterday in the mainstream media that Russian President Vladamir Putin threatened to cripple Australia's ally Britain with cyber-attacks!

And these politicians think it is a smart idea for all 20 million Australian social media users to upload our private data and potentially just hand it over to Russia and China?!

UNBELIEVABLE!

B. Freedom of Speech + Democracy

Social media platforms are essential for sharing information, whistleblowing, opposing government overreach, and debating these bills!

This policy poses a serious threat to free expression and democracy by linking real-life personal identities to social media accounts.

Government Surveillance:

Here is a direct quote from the bill:

"Provide powers to the eSafety Commissioner to seek information relevant to monitoring compliance..."

What does this likely mean?:

The eSafety Commissioner will be able to request verification of 'Age Assurance, ' which likely means IDs and biometric data.

I am forced to say 'likely' again because:

(A) they have not even finished their Age Assurance technology trial or reviewed it, and;

(B) they have not specified what it means for the eSafety commissioner to monitor compliance.

We have to assume the eSafety commissioner will be able to check Age Assurance right down to the personal ID or biometric data submitted.

If not, then the whole thing is an even bigger joke and makes no sense.

Do we really expect the Australian government to go through all this just to ask social media companies;

'Did you check that Joe is over 16?
Oh, you did. Great, very well then.'

No, that is absolutely idiotic!

They must check that this is done down to that level to check compliance with personal identification.

Otherwise, it makes no sense.

This will mean that government agencies will very likely have access to our private data and social media data, such as posts, pictures, messages, and things we say and do online without ever having to ask for a warrant or request a judge to allow them to.

Fear of Reprisal & Self-Censorship:

People will undoubtedly self-censor.

Knowing their personal information is linked to their online activity. Whistleblowers, activists, people on the opposite side of politics, and all Australians will think twice before speaking out, fearing retaliation.

During the COVID lockdowns, Australians who spoke out against government policies faced police intimidation, fines, and even arrests.

This is not a conspiracy theory; it is a fact.

If this policy is implemented, future governments will be able to use personal data to locate, silence, or punish dissenters during similar crises.

Throughout modern history, we have seen enough instances of governments being given too much power and too much information—they ALWAYS abuse it!

Some people say, 'Well, the government already knows who you are, and so do social media companies, so who cares?'

Firstly, that is not true.

The government might know who a person is, and if that person is accused of committing a crime, the government can seek warrants to access private property and information.

However, the government has NO direct link between a person who has not committed a crime but is on social media and that person's personal identification.

This is the same for social media companies only in reverse.

They have a persons social media activity but they do not have their personal identification.

Until now, these two things have been separate for a reason. Because together, they are dangerous.

• You don't keep your phone password taped to your phone.
• You don't drive around with your license plastered to the side of your car.
• You don't put a copy of your passport on your PO BOX.

It is even worse here!

Other people have said, 'Well, if you have a blue checkmark on X, you have already provided ID.'

The point is that those people have chosen to do so. They have not been forced to.

The number of people who have never provided identification or biometrics far outweighs those who have.

Many Australians choose to be private or anonymous online, which is their choice and right.

3⃣ Alternative Methods to Protect Children

If the government truly wanted to protect children, it could implement far less invasive and more effective methods.

Expanded Ratings Systems:

Australia already has robust ratings systems for TV, movies, and even food.

These systems empower parents to make informed decisions. A similar content ratings system could be applied to social media platforms.

This would allow parents and children to easily identify and avoid harmful content.

These systems already exist and are already in place. They would just need to be expanded.

This system would be far easier and cheaper to implement, and there would be zero privacy and security issues.

Parental Education and Tools:

The government could invest in educating parents on managing children’s online safety. And;

Offer tax breaks or discounts for families that use third-party apps like Google Family Link, Net Nanny, or similar blockers that already provide protective solutions.

These tools already exist and help parents manage screen time. They are already in use, have already been developed, and have already been time-tested, and there is no additional cost to deploy them.

With these tools, parents can monitor use, block access to inappropriate content, and monitor time on devices. They can also offer other tools, such as locking devices or enforcing time-based rules.

In other words, all of the things the Government says that they want to do, to 'protect children.'

When combined, a rating system PLUS parental tools, these provide a far better framework for protecting children without compromising the privacy and security of millions of Australians.

But let’s be clear:

As I have said, this isn’t what the government wants.

Instead, they are exploiting the tragic deaths and suicides of children to emotionally manipulate Australians like you into supporting this invasive policy in order to gain more power and control.

THE BIG CONCLUSION:

Thanks for making it this far.

This under-16 social media ban isn’t about protecting children—it’s about government overreach and mass surveillance.

Not only that, but from a privacy and security perspective, it is utter insanity, and it will expose all 20 million Aussies that use social media to hacks, frauds, scams, and criminals all over the world!

They want something far more sinister!

We already know that they wanted to enact a Misinformation and Disinformation Bill, which would allow them to be the sole arbiters of what is true and what is not online.

We won that fight, for now...

We already know that the eSafety commissioner has it in for platforms like X and Elon Musk when she started a legal battle over the church stabbing event (which she lost, thankfully).

We already know that during events like Covid, they came down hard and crushed any opposing voices from the public on social media.

What more do I have to show you to prove that they will absolutely abuse any new powers?

If the government were sincere in its intentions (they are not), it would focus on:

• Strengthening ratings systems for online content.

• Promoting the use of parental control tools like blocker apps, and;

•Potentially offering tax breaks.

Rather than:

• Invading the privacy of millions of Australians and;

• Exposing them to a world of hackers.

Finally, I hope you realize now that the government is trying to force us into a system ripe for abuse, hacking, and authoritarian control.

Let’s protect our children, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. Let's not throw away our privacy, security, and freedom.
