What's the difference between zombies and philosophical zombies?
Zombies will sneak up on you and eat your brain if you don't take them seriously. Philosophical zombies will do it if you do.
@Sacrifice_Isaac@PAHoyeck Words like "choice" and "decision" get a decidedly non-volitional cast in Heidegger. The understanding takes pretty clear priority over will.
@BrandonWarmke Conservatism at the national level these days is just white supremacy, misogyny, and transphobia, expressed largely through whining. So weird that anyone would feel uncomfortable around that.
@JackFromHollis@mehdirhasan Can you also be done pretending to represent Jews? Because the diaspora is sick of your blood libel. Israeli interests are not Jewish interests. They are now fundamentally opposed. What will a murderous beggar state do when it loses all international support?
@KRDNYC@mehdirhasan Well, it seems to be horrifically bad at that, since all it does is ensure that the number of people who want to destroy Israel grows each day.
@nightfight38155@mehdirhasan I hope you realize that anyone reading this will draw the conclusion that Israel has to be defeated at any cost. I don't think that's what you want people to take away.
@UAwildcat50@AFNoticer@electionsjoe I think "affordability" was used to explain the swing of independents to Trump. It was never a core MAGA concern. And I suspect for low-information voters, it's not even that they believed Trump. It's that many voters blame the President for high priced and don't think further.
@BrandonWarmke It's kinda weird to think people should study society just for its own sake and not to try to improve it, right? And also weird to think that improving society is fine, but only as long as the experts aren't involved.
@DavidSacks Funny to be worried about imaginary Left takeover of the economy when it's happening right in front of you and has nothing to do with the Left.
@VelliMach@PAHoyeck Isn't the Deweyan position here largely traceable to Mill and Humboldt? I'm just always curious what people mean by "classical" liberalism. If it's all pre-Millian, then yeah, screw it, I don't care what it conflicts with.
@PAHoyeck I suspect part of it is that the similarities between various analytic approaches are still much greater than those between, say, Havermas and Derrida.
@Castlewcpn@PAHoyeck Really? I've tried a few things by Benoist, but it always seemed like he just took the background descriptions from Taylor while consistently ignoring Taylor's attempts to resolve the problems (and why such resolution is necessary).
@RabbiPoupko@NYCMayor You need a psychiatrist much more than you need a place to vent your derangement. You can't be this much of a defective human being and pretend to be a Rabbi. Heal yourself first.
