@doc_gero It always depends on the context and your goal. It seems to me that you were having a more interesting conversation, in which case swatting down an annoying term shouldn’t have been the priority, as long as there was no confusion about what was meant by it in context
@Chopstyx13@CathyYoung63 The trans position generally used to acknowledge a difference between gender and sex. And that gender dysphoria involved a very strong desire to present along the lines of the social construct associated with the opposite sex. That’s a totally reasonable position.
@CJFerguson1111@CathyYoung63 It’s still tricky because even what you’re referring to as a possibility isn’t the same as a desire to present in a specific culture’s idea of surface level femininity. If “female brain” could be a biological reality it certainly wouldn’t mean that.
@vermiliongs The idea of a “female brain” used to be a male chauvinist concept. Dr. Webberley is not a neuroscientist so I wouldn’t refer to her as an expert just because she defines things in a way that just happen to be convenient for her policy preferences.
@MortifiedGenXer@charlesmurray Because the accuracy of the statement doesn’t matter. Dysphoria is a condition that by definition doesn’t reflect reality. But if surgery and hormones are the only thing that help an individual relieve the symptoms associated with the condition, then I won’t stop them
@mikelikeshills@charlesmurray I don’t infer from any of his statements that he disagrees with you on this. I haven’t seen a policy recommendation attached to his internal reaction of empathy for specific people.
@NeuroSGS@HelenWebberley It’s still incoherent. Technically the brain of a woman would be the physical brain that’s inside a natal female. Just like the liver of a woman.
@mushycrouton This poster is either being sarcastic to make some kind of point
If not I’d love to see a video of him practicing what he preaches. It would certainly be entertaining
@CrunchAlias The first position doesn’t have to be reasonable in your eyes to be a thing. Adults can dress how they want and get whatever surgeries they want. If it makes them feel better, fine.
The second position is problematic because we rightfully don’t allow children the same rights
@bandagedeunuch The next thing you’d do is try to eliminate the term cis women. A term you invented.
At least admit “accurate” definitions has nothing to do with your actual goal. Changing definitions is a means to an end. That’s sharing space with cis women.
@bandagedeunuch What if you were granted full victory in the definition war? Every word means exactly what you say it means. But from now on we discriminate (bathrooms, sports, and prisons) not between men and women, but between cis women and everyone else. Everyone wins 😁
@tifasweetie You’re absolutely right. Society can’t insist on you doing anything against your will. At the same time you can’t insist that society accepts your terms either. You have no fewer rights than a cis man. If you want more rights that will require persuasion rather than insistence.
@insights198@charlesmurray That there is some disparity, mostly at the extreme margins, that affects averages. But in practical terms it gives you no helpful insight when dealing with any individuals. So there isn’t really anything to do with this information except say it’s kind of interesting I guess.
@wokeandwoofing Are you suggesting that the books were anything other than a 7 part Mein Kampf style manifesto aimed at a final trans solution? You might be slipping, WaW.
