That is quite the racist filter if you ask me!

But let's talk about the facts and the stats for a moment.

Black Americans are about 14% of the country. In the latest FBI expanded homicide data, when the offender’s race is known, they account for more than half of murder offenders. Same story on the victim side: more than half of homicide victims are Black. Homicide is the leading killer of young Black men. Most of those victims are not dying at a zucchini stand. They’re dying at the hands of other Black men. Roughly 85% of Black homicide victims are killed by Black offenders. That’s not a talking point. That’s the pattern year after year.

Black women get hit by that same pattern. They are murdered by men at more than twice the rate of white women. Nine out of ten of those Black women killed by a man knew him. A lot of them were killed by an intimate. Not a stranger in khakis holding a bag of peaches.

Violent crime follows the same split. Victim surveys and arrest data both show Black offenders heavily overrepresented in robbery and a large share of aggravated assault. White farmers-market crowds are not driving those numbers.

So when somebody looks at the safest Saturday morning crowd in town and calls it the threat, they’re not describing reality. They’re describing a script. The people actually dying in this country are not dying from too many Mormons buying tomatoes.
