🚨 ONE STANDARD FOR EVERY PROTEST — OR NO STANDARD AT ALL

An Ottawa Police liaison officer was recorded saying recurring pro-Palestinian marches have a “weekly permit” allowing demonstrators onto downtown roads.

That claim deserves a clear public explanation.

Ottawa’s rules say events using city streets require coordination and authorization. Meanwhile, Ottawa Police reported that $6.5 million of its $28.9-million 2025 budget deficit was connected to unreimbursed costs from policing demonstrations related to the Israel–Palestinian conflict.

Now compare that response with the Freedom Convoy.

The convoy’s main Ottawa demonstration lasted roughly three weeks in early 2022. The Trudeau government invoked the Emergencies Act, created restricted zones, authorized financial institutions to freeze certain accounts and used extraordinary federal powers to clear the protest.

In January 2026, the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the finding that invoking the Emergencies Act was unreasonable and failed to meet the required legal threshold.

Yes, the convoy caused serious disruption, including prolonged street blockages, noise complaints and economic consequences. That should not be minimized. But Canadians are still entitled to ask why one disruptive movement faced emergency powers and frozen accounts, while recurring demonstrations connected to another political cause appear to receive weekly police escorts and planned road access.

This is not about silencing anyone’s lawful expression.

It is about equal enforcement:

✅ The same permit requirements
✅ The same traffic rules
✅ The same protection for residents and businesses
✅ The same consequences for unlawful conduct

Freedom of expression cannot depend on whether authorities agree with the message.

Ottawa Police should publish the permit or authorization, explain its conditions and tell taxpayers exactly how these weekly road closures are being approved.

One country. One law. One standard.
