NEWS: A federal appeals court has ruled, in a 2-1 decision, that the Trump-Hegseth transgender military ban is likely unconstitutional, finding that the policy appears to be driven by a “bare desire to harm a politically unpopular group” and is “both arbitrary and based upon animus.”
In a blistering opinion, Judge Wilkins wrote that the administration provided no factual basis for claims that transgender service members lack the honesty, humility, or integrity required for military service, noting that many of the plaintiffs have served honorably for years and earned more than 80 commendations.
The court upheld an injunction protecting current transgender service members from being expelled under the policy, while vacating the injunction as it applies to new applicants seeking to enlist.

The suspect in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner incident has just appeared in federal court — and is now facing a charge of attempted assassination of the President of the United States, among others.
MTN's @MacFarlaneNews was on the scene at the courthouse. Here are the details:
Cole Tomas Allen was arraigned moments ago in Washington, D.C., where the criminal case against him has officially been unsealed.
Wearing a blue jail uniform and flanked by U.S. Marshals, Allen stood quietly as he was sworn in and confirmed he will be represented by a federal public defender.
Prosecutors charged Allen with:
— Attempted assassination of the President
— Transporting a firearm in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony
— Use of a firearm in a crime of violence
Federal authorities say Allen was armed with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol, and knives at the time of the incident.
The Justice Department is seeking pretrial detention, arguing the charges qualify as a federal crime of terrorism and mandate that Allen remain in custody.
His defense noted he has no prior criminal history, but did not oppose scheduling a detention hearing. A detention hearing is now set for Thursday at 11 a.m. Allen will remain detained in the interim.
