"There's no back door at sea son" said my Cunard White Star dad. The 3rd class guy below suffered that fate in a 1997 blockbuster James Cameron movie but the ISMAY guy in "B52-56" on the bridge deck of an unbelievably luxurious suite who lived in 13 BEACH LAWN Waterloo survived.

Why has The sinking of the SS Cumbrae around 4.30 pm on that foggy Wednesday afternoon December 11 1895, close to the Crosby lightship and not that far from 13 Beech Lawn House been ignored? Are there any lessons to be learned from re-visiting it TODAY 130 YRS on? Yes there are!

A violent naval collision on a foggy Wednesday afternoon at the mouth of the River Mersey! December 11 1895. This is a tale of 2 ships, a luxury White Star liner SS Germanic steaming out to New York and a small inward bound freight passenger steamer from Glasgow, the SS Cumbrae.
