A Boy Gave $20 He Found in a Parking Lot to a Soldier Because His Father Was a Soldier
Eight-year-old Myles Eckert found a $20 bill in a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Ohio. He planned to buy a video game with it.Then he saw Lt. Col. Frank Dailey, a U.S. Air Force officer in uniform.
Myles’s own father, Army Sgt. Andy Eckert had been killed in Iraq when Myles was just five weeks old.Myles wrapped the money in a handwritten note that read:
“Dear Soldier, my dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day. Thank you for your service. Signed, Myles Eckert.”
He gave it to the surprised officer.
The simple act deeply moved Lt. Col. Dailey, who said the boy gave him far more than money — a renewed sense of purpose.
On #MemorialDay, and each day, we reflect upon those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. 🧡
Take time to visit the Pylons & the Cenotaph in War Memorial Court, etched with the names of every #VirginiaTech student and graduate who died defending our nation’s freedom.
Today, they took the oath—stepping into a calling bigger than themselves. We congratulate our cadets who commissioned into the U.S. military and we are proud of their service, leadership, and commitment to something greater.
The command has now passed! Congratulations to the Class of 2026, whose time in the Corps was defined by challenge, growth, and service to others.
To the Class of 2027: you step forward to lead—carrying a legacy of discipline and service.
Change of Command Ceremony - Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets
Today is one of my favorite days on campus as we get to witness the change of leadership - Class of ‘26 to the Class of ‘27 while also celebrating the achievements of the ‘26 graduates.
Bravo Zulu to All!

For the first time in program history, two true freshmen earned podium finishes at the NCAA Championship. There had been only three previous true freshman All-Americans for the Hokies. Aaron Seidel and Collin Gaj added their names to the list and joined elite company this past March.
