When my oldest graduated from High School, they asked those who were enlisting to stand. They wore a stole with the service they were joining. Later I ran into in Principal and thanked him for doing that. He snidely remarked the school district makes them do it. He didn’t like the idea. I responded life’s a bitch when you have to follow direction. He left in a huff.

I had a friend on his first cat shot, break the bridle in a T-2. He probably could have stopped if he knew better. Dribbled off the bow at 60 kts. Ejected. They never saw him at deck level. Plucked him out of the water. Flew him back to base. Got the Omni Omni Vortac from the flight surgeon. Next day put him in the back seat. Instructor trapped. Went off the bow and said that’s what it feels like. Trapped. Did a hot swap and he went on to his 5 traps and called it day. He was fine. The spousal unit wasn’t a happy camper.
