Good afternoon StacoS family! As of Saturday morning 0700 hours the Carney Hospital was placed on Code Black (Closed/Not taking any patients) and closed for good. In the past 55 hours there has been 24/7 coverage by Beauport Ambulance in case of anyone showing up to the ER with an emergency. This coverage will continue throughout the week until Friday. Over the past few days, there have been multiple people showing up to the ER with emergencies. This just goes to show how vital the hospital is to not only the entire healthcare system but also the community. It has been a staple of the Dorchester community since 1863, this close is very unfortunate but also very costly to the public. Carney Hospital is a common location for walk up shooting and stabbing victims, often times them being dropped off at the ER. Furthermore, this closure has put an immense amount of stress on Boston EMS. Since the closure, there have been several hours where there are no EMS units available. With the closure, EMS crews in the Dorchester/Mattapan area now have an extended turn around time being the only hospitals to go to, the BMC and BI-Milton. In the past 55 hours it is has been very apparent that the Carney Hospital is a vital part of the community. Change needs to happen! Sooner or later, the closure will end up hurting people due to extended EMS response/transport times. We hope that our StacoS family can help share this message and shed more light onto this situation as it is very unfortunate.

If you do have an emergency and end up at the Carney, Beauport Ambulance will be posted at the Carney Hospital for the next 82 hours ready for any emergency and will transport you to a hospital if necessary. City and Government officials need to recognize the severity of this situation and help find a resolution!
