1. A beat can still drop: expectations are already priced in. Good is not enough. Results have to beat what the market already assumes.

2. A miss can still rally: the shorts have already sold, so once the bad news is out, they buy back.

3. In line means priced in: no surprise, and the money moves on.

4. Fine numbers, then one line on the call flips it: guidance and management's tone often matter more than the quarter's numbers.

Tesla's Q2 is the textbook case of rule 1: revenue beat, gross margin missed at 16.8%, and the stock fell almost 15% the next day. Consensus this quarter is gross margin 17.9%, revenue $28.3B, and EPS $0.45. Q3 deliveries of 486,500 already beat expectations by about 5%, so strong deliveries are likely priced in. The variables left are gross margin and the Robotaxi and Optimus guidance on the 21:30 UTC earnings call. Options are pricing a move of about ±7.5%.
