Kevin Briggs has been called the "Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge."

He got the nickname while working as a California Highway Patrol officer for over 23 years.

Briggs spent most of that time positioned on the Golden Gate Bridge, where he prevented over 200 suicide attempts.

When encountering a suicidal individual, Briggs typically initiates a conversation by asking how they are doing and what their plans are for the following day.

He tries to make some with them if they have no plans, suggesting they return to the bridge if their plans don't work out.

The image below captures a moment from 2005 when Briggs spent 60 minutes convincing Kevin Berthia to climb back over the bridge rail. Berthia later married and had several children.
