Don't get me wrong. I love Yugioh and credit it as the stepping stone that got me into Magic. However I could never play that game seriously again. Especially after how many times they've gutted events (UTW) and tournament rules lmao.

I love yugioh and am in the yugioh space but the cope yugioh players had that it would surpass Pokemon when the full arts and serialized stuff was announced was hysterical

And the print quality took a nose dive around the full art release too. So any new or returning customers got a glimpse of how incompetent Konami is lol

I always find it funny when people complain about paper Standard not doing better. As far as I can tell this is mostly due to decisions Wizards made over the course of several years (MPL, canceling GPs, renaming the PT a bunch of times, changing rotation and qualifiers, commander focused card design, price increases etc.), with the pandemic also contributing by shutting everything down at a critical point when the MPL was fading.

It's not like players woke up one day and were like "you know what, I'm done with Standard," instead I think it was years of Wizards pushing players away from it, intentionally or unintentionally.

They are moving in the opposite direction now, at least to some extent, which is great. But it's a lot easier and faster to tear down an ecosystem than it is to rebuild one.
