Dominance in the girls 300 meter hurdles continued today for @DaviesTFandXC standout Kate Laqua.
Laqua won the event for the fourth straight year, running in a time 43.62, winning by nearly two seconds.
Laqua will run for @NDSUTrackField next year.
@JoshuaGusaas@Jocieschiller I trust she considered many factors & made a decision that was best for her. We don’t need to understand. I coached against her & observed her compete in other sports. Everything I’ve seen & heard says “classy.” I look fwd to watching her in whatever color she wears. -UND alum
Paris proves bold leadership transforms cities. 🌍
From suffocating smog (2007) to clean, green & livable streets (2023):
🚴♀️ 100s of km of bike lanes
🌳 Tens of thousands of trees
🚗 Car-free zones & 30 km/h limits
Millions now breathe clean air.
When will we dare to follow? 💪
Most of the advice around using sprints for health is really bad.
Why? Because health influencers think sprinting = anything moderately fast.
Actual sprinting is a skill that is incredibly demanding, should be low volume with lots of recovery. And built up to systematically.
Why are we still ice bathing?
Robust evidence shows cold-water immersion after training INHIBITS recovery by blunting muscle protein synthesis and anabolic signaling.
Why, then, are we still doing it? It's culturally ingrained at this point. Athletes are jumping in cold tubs because that's what we do, and fitness influencers have more sway than credible scientific experts.
Only in unique circumstances, e.g., between successive competitive heats, is there any potential benefit.

Skip the supplements. Hit the pillow.
If you have been searching for the fountain of youth or taking all sorts of crazy supplements you can stop now. Instead, simply get under the covers and close your eyes.
If you are sedentary, you are unhealthy, even if you don’t have a diagnosed health condition.
A new study makes this quite clear.
Researchers compared sedentary adults (no structured exercise) to a group of adults who were moderately active (they exercised at least 150 minutes per week).
Importantly, both groups were “healthy” in that they had no diagnosed cardiometabolic conditions.
But the sedentary adults had worse mitochondrial function, poorer cardiorespiratory fitness, and a lower rate of fat oxidation at rest and during exercise. They also produced more lactate at a *much* lower power output than the moderately-active adults.
These findings have profound implications for how we classify and recruit participants in research studies.
They suggest that the “healthy sedentary” phenotype doesn’t exist—
a lack of disease does not imply someone is in good metabolic health. As such, we shouldn’t be using these “healthy sedentary” people as control subjects in studies.

Meanwhile...one of the funniest interviews of the Olympics so far was when NCAA champion Christopher Morales-Williams of @UGATrack was asked about handling pressure at the Olympics. He's 19 years old and representing Canada and just advanced to the semifinal.
Here's what he said:
“I was talking with Coach Caryl (Smith-Gilbert), she was telling me ‘You’ve done harder things than this already.’ SECs was harder. SECs last year was harder than any race I’ve done this year. The hardest part was just getting to be that fast.
Now I just go out there and have fun. If I lose, I just go back to school and continue on with my life. But these guys, you know, they’re old. They’ve got cars, and kids. I don’t even own a car, I don’t even have to pay for gas. So it’s like, what do I even need to worry about? Spending money on pencils?”

Wow! Tom Brady may have just delivered the greatest quote I’ve ever heard.
“To be successful at anything, the truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it.”
