Agree with other comments that they are probably dissociable. To me, vividness captures imagery (multi-sensory), whereas confidence is more of a metacognitive judgement.

@Nathan_Spreng @maureenritchey Thank you! And yes, it seems that the degree to which memory vividness is coupled with gist or perceptual detail is variable across people. As in older adults, I suspect there are biases towards one or the other in different populations
