Self Sabotage in disguise - Change this one habit and you will become a go-getter instead of waiting your life to happen.
Today my wife and I set a somewhat audacious goal!
The goal itself isn’t important here but what struck me is that we automatically assumed that the time needed to achieve it is at least a year.
We were being “realistic” 🙂 Is that how grown ups think?
A decade ago, I would have laughed at myself for being too reasonable. Have I lost my balls along the way or what?
Of course the undertaking would involve a lot of moving parts, many of which we can’t control, but still… We can control our efforts, right?
I asked myself “WHY 12 months? Can we do it in 3?”
The answer is YES.
As grown ups we tend to overthink and as humans we tend to procrastinate.
Remember the Parkinson’s law!
“Work will expand to fill the time allotted for its completion”.
By giving ourselves a year, we will not create the urgency for action we actually need.
Delaying the deadline, will also increase the possibility of distraction.
We risk, our vision to become blurry and loose focus on WHAT we do, and most importantly WHY we do it.
A good example from my life is when I was applying for university in the UK and I had started my english lessons just two months prior.
The timing was as follows:
⏳- 9th October 2014 I decided to study in the UK.
⏳- End of October I started my English lessons
⏳- Mid December was the deadline for applications including the submission of a motivational letter written by the applicant.
⏳- January 2015 the Universities publish the results
Had I been reasonable back then and decided to give myself a year, two things would have happened.
First, I would have wasted a year of education and progress, and second, I might have lost both, the desire and the vision.
This could have led me to quitting.
Instead I said: “Ok, this is the timeframe… ‘It’s time to roll the sleeves and work with what we have.’ Let’s make it happen.”
And what do you know… It took me exactly two months to learn how to write so I could write the letter (Parkinson’s Law).
It took another three months of studying grammar and vocabulary expansion to feel somewhat prepared for the academic year.
If it’s possible to learn a foreign language on an academic level for 5 months, why do I need a year to complete something that is simpler?
Do you have something in your mind? Do you kick it down the road for no reason?
This was so painful to watch... I really hope he survives this but I don't think so, neck is too vital 😭
I need some big satisfactory solution in tmr's last ep or Imma riot

I've been reflecting recently on my life goals, new projects, achievements and basically how one can fulfil their potential.
I've read a lot of widely known titles on the topic but on reflection, there's only one simple thing that I've found to be failure-proof to me👇
Back in 2015 I took one of the biggest risks I've ever taken in my life.
I left all that was familiar to me... all my friends, my family and even most of my clothes, to pursue a dream and a better future.
I was 25 at the time and this was a major change to me.
Now, 8 years later, I can say I've done everything I set to do back then, but I'm changed.
I'm being more cautious, careful and maybe overthinking too much my new endeavours.
I asked myself: I've done hard things before... Why does everything feel even harder this time around?
And then it hit me... It was so simple I couldn't believe it.
Somewhere along the way, I've lost my (as I call it) "Go Forward" mentality. I've lost the feel of the binary (Yes/No, Success/Failure, Go Forward or Go Home).
The reason behind it was comfort - simple as that.
Back then I had my back against the wall.
I had no safety net, no back up plan and certainly no options. The only possible direction was FORWARD.
There is something magical happening within the human brain when in this situation - believe me!
This was what I was missing.
I had to remove all my back ups, but since I am not a crazy person and putting at risk all I've build with so much effort would be a bad idea, I came up with more of a mental hack, that takes me to that state of mind.
It follows three simple steps:
1. Commit:
Like in a relationship, there might be a thousand other options but I don’t care.
There will be hard times and there will be good. I might have to pivot and compromise but I am dedicated to this one thing.
You don’t go into a marriage thinking about your Plan B…
2. Restrict:
Put a tight boundaries around everything.
Restrictions make you creative in your approach. You don’t need that better tool or that one more book on the subject. You don't need more money for the project, nor you need more time to work on that article you're writing..
You and I both need a kick in the B and a tight deadline. If you’re anything like me you will thrive under those circumstances.
Even if you’re comfortable, fake your new “rough” and "primal" environment and you will start seeing results immediately.
3. Act:
Act confidently and boldly. Going back to those days, I was just doing what I had to.
I didn’t think about it and I trusted my instincts. I had to be in motion. There weren’t any options and there wasn’t a plan B.
Plan B was failure and that wan’t an option.
Summary
The key to unlocking your potential:
1. Commit (fully)
2. Restrict (heavily)
3. Act (boldly)
If this helps only one more person, the way it helped me, I will be happy. Thank you for reading. Feel free to follow for more.
Admitting I was drowning in debt was my first step to financial recovery. 😔
Seeing my credit card balance finally drop to zero was a moment of triumph over years of financial struggle.
Follow this 🧵 as I share how I did it, offering you a blueprint to do the same.
"I still do. It'd be weird if I didn't. What kind of lunatic searches 15 years for someone he's uninterested in?" 😍
