I wish Google had an "I'm just a writer/agent/editor doing research" button on their site so every time I Googled something random I didn't start getting advertisements for said random item 🙃
Man, it's been a while. Life, am I right? Good news is, still read a good deal of books and wrote quite a lot while everything was happening! #writing#reading
writers: look at this chaotic little character, there's no knowing what he'll do next.
person: aren't you the...author?
writer: you think i have control do you
Sometimes you just have to write a great story for yourself. And not worry about writing perfectly right away. Just entertain. The editing comes later. #amwriting
writers worry about a lot of things but our favourite thing to stress over is WORD COUNT:
- how do i make this book long enough
- yikes now my books are way too long what do i cut
- i have been writing for 17 hours why are there only 100 words
- do books even need words
Always face your writing monsters. Don't stop. Keep writing right along with them. Seek your writing monsters out and make them yours. #amwriting#amediting ..Writing
I have total love for books with cozy scenes and soft arcs and happy endings. But I also love books that are piles of pain and rage with narrators who are messy little terrors who make and break my heart. Like I can DO BOTH. We need both.
we need hobbit-themed hikes where you cut across country with three or four of your closest companions, telling stories in old pubs and nicking mushrooms from farms and occasionally battling Old Man Willow or a barrow-wight
readers: a book needs to feel balanced
writers: yes yes so i'll do something nice for this character and follow it up with suffering
readers: wait that's not--
reminder for authors that if you scream into the void enough it will eventually grow sick of you and offer writing advice or to read over your latest chapters just to shut you up
I hope there are days when you experience the joy of looking at yourself and realizing you’re no longer the awkward, lost person you were growing up, that you have warm friendships and are good at what you do and enjoy who you are. I hope all your ugly ducklings become swans.
"Just write the story first, and then, later on, you can edit; the fact is you'll always need to. Make a pact with your inner critic and only let them loose after you finish the first draft and only during editing." -Wrtr #amwriting Keep Writing.
