A powerful initiative in Detroit is helping Black descendants of enslaved people build generational wealth — offering up to $25,000 in grants toward homeownership and family lineage tracing.

The program, run by Reparation Generation, serves residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties who can trace their ancestry to enslaved people in the U.S.

More than financial aid, this effort is about reparative justice — redistributing wealth and opportunity to those whose ancestors were denied access to property ownership through slavery, housing discrimination, and the GI Bill.

So far, 12 metro Detroit families have already become homeowners through this program — a real step toward closing the racial wealth gap and restoring legacy. 🖤
