One nice piece of symbolism was that the Obamas had their wedding reception (thirty years ago today) at the South Shore Cultural Center, housed (then and now) in a former country club which had closed down in 1975 rather than admit African Americans, Jews and others as members:

Against all Covid odds, finally made Center Theatre Group’s Writers Workshop retreat happen. 10 playwrights, 10 actors, all women, all reflective of the Los Angeles story waiting to be told, this should be the norm, not the exception. 3 days in community, hearing story, changed.
