Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), through its Manufacturing Academy, partnered with Positively People (USA) to host a Family-Owned Business Management roundtable forum on Friday, August 16th, 2024 at the Tribe Hotel in Nairobi.
Over 15 KAM member organizations attended the event, sharing their valuable experiences, success stories, and challenges in managing family businesses. The forum was facilitated by Dr. Jean Meeks-Koch, a renowned global expert and ably moderated by @njogu_joyce, KAM Head of Consulting and Business Development.
Through this partnership, KAM aims to establish a Center for Family-Owned Businesses, a dedicated resource center offering tailored services and support to this distinctive group as well as relaunch its Family-Owned Business Management Training program to empower family business owners with essential skills and knowledge.

Yesterday, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), through its Women in Manufacturing (WIM) program, hosted the WIM Lower Eastern Region Forum in Machakos. This session is part of a nationwide series supported by @giz_gmbh, aimed at enhancing the participation and inclusivity of women in the manufacturing sector.
Speaking at the forum, the County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Dr. Muya Ndambuki, acknowledged the significant progress women have made in the county. He expressed enthusiasm about participating in the forum, emphasizing its alignment with Machakos County's commitment to women’s empowerment and leadership.
Also in attendance, was the CECM for Youth, Gender, and Sports, Hon. John Kilonzo, who recognized and congratulated the many women leading various organizations and departments in Kenya and Machakos County. He mentioned the various funds available for women through Machakos County initiatives.
KAM Lower Eastern Region Vice Chairperson, Ms. Jane Ndungo, addressed the gender gap in manufacturing, where women remain underrepresented. She acknowledged the progress made through supportive organizational policies and emphasized the importance of initiatives like WIM2Counties, which empower women across value chains.
Ms. @EmmaNgutu, representing the WIM Steering Committee, highlighted the ongoing efforts and achievements of the WIM program. She emphasized its impact on empowering women in the sector through mentorship, training, and partnerships, with a particular focus on enhancing women’s roles at the county level.
KAM Head of Corporate Communications & Marketing, Mr @LawrenceNjenga, reiterated KAM's commitment to sustainable industrialization. He emphasized the association's focus on sustainability, membership growth, and stakeholder engagement. Mr. Njenga also underscored the importance of empowering women in manufacturing through initiatives like the #WIM2Counties forums, which are key to enhancing industry competitiveness and driving economic prosperity.
The county editions have been supported by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) through the Agency for Business and Economic Development, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The next county edition will take place in Mombasa County.
