Gov. Gretchen Whitmer clarifies reports that she won't run for president in 2028.
"I never thought I'd run for governor, so I should know better," Whitmer says. "Never say never."
Whitmer says she doesn't want any distractions during her final year as governor.
NEW from MSU Trustee Rema Vassar: "We have the receipts."
Vassar sent me a statement saying President Guskiewicz told her last week he would not be leaving MSU. She also pushed back on his criticism of board members.
New Clemson president Kevin Guskiewicz says while he appreciated Michigan State’s efforts to boost his salary to prevent him from leaving, he “never requested” that and didn’t sign the extension. Also hints at disagreements among MSU’s board as part of his reasoning to leave
Perry Johnson, GOP gubernatorial candidate, flew to Mackinac Island on a private plane today to publicize his conference boycott, saying "can't we start looking at the needs of the people first?"
He didn't take his private jet, though. "My jet couldn't land here," he told me.
Former Transportation Secretary @PeteButtigieg says the Gordie Howe International Bridge is being blocked from opening due to "corruption."
"The craziest thing about this is Mexico was never going to pay for the wall, but Canada actually did pay for the bridge," he adds. #MPC26
Former VP @Mike_Pence says he first visited Mackinac Island as a kid — usually without issue. But he jokes that the last time he was here, the Secret Service missed the memo to leave the motorcade behind. He says this time he's traveling by horse-drawn carriage. #MPC26
In the past couple days, I've traveled on a plane, train, bus, car, boat and horse-drawn carriage.
Going straight from the traffic of Times Square to the traffic of Mackinac Island is quite an adjustment. #MPC26
The Mackinac Policy Conference is expanding some of this year’s programming to Mackinac Island’s other major hotel, Mission Point Resort.
Former Lt. Gov. @BrianCalley will give tours of the property, and U.S. Senate candidate @MalloryMcMorrow will lead a yoga session. #MPC26
Duggan also told me his running mate will be someone "who's not a traditional politician."
Duggan said he's looking for "somebody who’s accomplished something in business, education, nonprofit world, starting a company."

Independent gubernatorial candidate Mike Duggan tells me he will vote in Michigan's open primary: "I vote every election, so I'll vote."
The former Democratic mayor of Detroit said he "hadn't given any thought at all" to which party's primary he would vote in.
@bensolis1 It could be, if they're counting on the location data being accurate. There are several reasons an IP address could give an incorrect location though: VPNs, IP masking (which is built in on Apple devices with a subscription), defaulting to the last known Wi-Fi connection, etc.
Byrum said data showing that a delegate voted from Montenegro is likely the result of a VPN service being used.
She said if the party attempted to geofence voting based on IP addresses, “there likely would have been major issues, which likely would have disenfranchised voters.”
NEW: Someone voted remotely in the Michigan Democratic Party nominating convention in Detroit from the eastern European country of Montenegro, according to @SenatorSantana's MSU trustee campaign.
Sanatana wants an independent audit of the results after finding dozens of delegates who weren't in Huntington Place during the convention vote.
@CraigDMauger with the latest:

Ingham County Clerk @BarbByrum tells me she will not appeal the results of the Secretary of State race.
She says IP addresses are an unreliable source of location data: An MDP team member seen at the convention was logged as voting from Houston, she said. https://t.co/gf9AqiEffg
AG @DanaNessel, a term-limited Democrat, says her votes at the MDP's endorsement convention were not attributed correctly, and the system had her in the wrong congressional district.
@SenatorSantana, who narrowly lost a MSU Board of Trustees race, requested an independent audit.
