@BBCNewsnight Faisal Islam is best as an economics commentator but weak as host of Newsnight. His questioning of the American victim of Epstein was embarrassing - she didn’t know who Mandelson is and yet he persisted in asking her opinions on his future. Bring on Paddy.
@BBCRadio3 Your continuity plumbs new depths. I am now used to being addressed as though a CBeebies viewer. But I’ve just heard following the repeat of the Shost 14 that it was a “belter of a programme”. Yuck. But she failed to tell us the name of the soloist. Shoddy.
@MichaelBerkele2 Hello. I am considering repertoire for a (competent) amateur orchestra. We are interested in playing your arrangement of Prokofiev’s Queen of Spades as recorded on Chandos. Could you let me know who publishes it? Many thanks indeed. Rowan.
The next time a parent writes a cheque to pay their child’s private school fees they should think surely” I’m doing this because the state schools aren’t good enough for my children. Whose children are they good enough for?“. Rip up the cheque or pay the VAT. #SkyDebate
@BBCRadio3 Let’s go wild and join in the Epiphany celebrations in Rome as vividly depicted by Respighi in La Befaba from his Feste Romana. The version conducted by his compatriot Riccardo Muti (albeit Neapolitan!) is particularly wild. Rowan C.
@LBC Nick - parliamentary invective nowadays very diluted. Recall this exchange: female MP accuses Churchill of being drunk - He replied “My dear, you are ugly, and what’s more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly.'
@BBCNews Shame on you for not mentioning the death of the conductor Sir Andrew Davis on the late news last night. All the more so since he was the Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony for years and featured on many Proms Last Nights, watched by millions. Bad editorial decision.
@BBCRadio3 Tasmin Little proving to be an excellent contributor - erudite and enthusiastic and free of the awful gushing that afflicts some others. Please make sure she returns! And pass on my congratulations to her. Rowan, Battersea
@BBCRadio3 I’m having a late breakfast of porridge today which made me think of Eric Coates’ Three Bears phantasy? The Goldilocks story brilliantly captured in music with the rhythm of the words “Who’s been sitting in my chair” forming the leitmotif of the whole piece.
@BBCRadio3 In the film, Henreid's cello playing was dubbed by Eleanor Aller, mother of the conductor Leonard Slatkin. In the concert scenes Henreid’s arms were tied behind him and two cellists put their arms through the sleeves of a specially designed coat.
@BBCRadio3 Though not till next Sunday, 4.30pm St John’s Smith Square - Salomon Orchestra conducted by Philip Hesketh, soloist Fenella Humphreys (BBC Music Magazine award winner) play Korngold VC, Kabalevsky Colas Breugnon Overture and Weinberg’s magnificent Symphony 3
@LBC@mrjamesob Starmer - sober is good with a hint of opaqueness? Magnolia if you want a paint analogy.
Personally I’ve had enough of “charisma”. Give me Attleean any day. Rowan
Dear @peterkyle I want to vote @UKLabour . And to listen. But please, please say less. Too much blah blah. I was taught to make my points on 1 side of A4 and you & your colleagues need to do the verbal same when being interviewed. Could you? Otherwise I - we - just switch off.
@BBCRadio3 Marches usually have 4 beats in a bar. Not for Elgar - his March of the Mogul Emperors from Brown of India is in 3/4 - almost a polonaise! Good fun though.
@BBCRadio4 I think we’ve heard enough the message about the #r4today podcast. The more I hear Nick, Amol etc extolling it the less inclined I am to want to listen
