In this poem from Death of a Naturalist, Seamus Heaney describes how the dowser locates underground water with the use of a forked hazel branch. Heaney talks about how these folk methods seem miraculous and magical, a theme he continuously explores in his work.

The first Ness of Brodgar Open Day is tomorrow, Sunday 14th July, on site and at the Stenness school - 11am-4pm.
