Canada Should Investigate India’s Role in Kanishka Bombing

Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) writes to you today with a matter of profound national importance to Canada. “INDIA BLEW UP A 747, NO LESS…”— These are the exact words of former CIA officer and whistleblower John Kiriakou, speaking on The Chris Hedges Report. He has publicly disclosed what SFJ has maintained since 2010: the Indian government orchestrated the bombing of Air India Flight 182 (Kanishka) on June 23, 1985, which killed 329 innocent people — the vast majority of them Canadian citizens.

For forty years, Canadians were told that Khalistan supporters were responsible. Now an American intelligence insider has confirmed the truth: the Indian government itself was behind this massacre, the deadliest aviation attack in Canadian history. The John Major Commission report contained glaring discrepancies, including the expulsion of Indian diplomats Surinder Malik, Brij Mohan Lal, and Davinder Ahluwalia — identified as the suspected masterminds — yet the Indian government’s direct role was never fully investigated.

Air India is not merely an airline. It is a daily reminder of an unresolved mass killing of Canadians by the Indian state. Every Air India flight departing from Canada reopens the wounds of 329 Canadian families who lost loved ones at the hands of terrorism orchestrated by Indian State.

We have therefore launched a campaign to SHUTDOWN Air India operations in Canada until full accountability is achieved for the Kanishka bombing.

As part of this campaign, SFJ is issuing a formal PICKET call for April 12, 2026, specifically targeting:

This picket is a peaceful, lawful protest to demand that Canada stop normalizing the operations of an airline tied to the mass murder of its own citizens.
For decades, some sections of the Indo-Canadians community and sections of the media have actively deflected attention away from the Indian government’s role in the bombing. With the CIA whistleblower’s disclosure now public, that era of misdirection must end. The truth is out: “India blew up a 747, no less.”

We call upon the leadership of Hindu temples in Canada to acknowledge this new evidence and support the demand for justice. Canadians must choose truth over silence. Continued Air India operations in Canada only erase accountability for what the Indian government did to 329 Canadian families.

Every temple has a moral responsibility to stand on the side of truth, especially when the victims were overwhelmingly Canadian.

We urge you to publicly support the shutdown of Air India operations until the Government of Canada conducts a full, independent investigation into the Indian state’s role in the Kanishka bombing.

Gurdwara Sahib Fremont — five thousand weekly worshippers, one of the most influential Sikh institutions in the world — sent a letter to Attorney General Bondi asking the DOJ to investigate the Hindu American Foundation under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The allegations were specific: HAF facilitated meetings between foreign officials and American lawmakers, hosted foreign officials at its events, and consistently advocated for the interests of India's ruling party. Documents obtained through India's Right to Information Act show the Indian Embassy acknowledged a fiduciary relationship with HAF and refused to release their correspondence. HAF's response was to call the Gurdwara's complaint "paranoid, defamatory, and nonsensical." That is what they said about Fremont's own constituents — people who raised documented concerns through proper legal channels to the nation's top law enforcement officer. Several California cities have already rescinded proclamations to these organizations after learning what they represent.
