That’s a series win for the Royals! Shoulda been a sweep, but a series win! Those have been rare. Massey with a key AB! Loftin with some juice.
Kolek with 7 strong, he’s gotta be a mainstay of this rotation now.
Saying what he has to say, but it's the right move to get away from Erceg in the 9th. And probably the right move to play matchups cuz honestly, they don't have anyone else who looks like a lock in the 9th (even Lynch).
Matt Quatraro says he will match up the 9th based on availability & situations short term, but still views Lucas Erceg as a ninth-inning option long term.
He says Maikel Garcia will be available off the bench tonight & hopes for a return to the lineup in Minnesota this weekend.
@BrianAndersen67 Yes, this is a criticism of Q (and the Royals' front office) that I am open to and will explore on today's midweek episode.
A very fair critique of data-driven leadership in general is that it tends to be slow to adjust bc being data-driven means waiting for significant samples.
@prospect_portal Idk that it’s about defending or not defending. I think 80% of the anti-Q crowd assign WAY too much impact to the role of manager bc it’s easier than blaming players or a talent-deficient roster (which this clearly is).
Does Q make mistakes? Yeah. Is keeping faith in Erceg one?
I just can’t imagine a thought process that led to the conclusion that Erceg should still be closing.
Nothing from Erceg has looked good. Not the overall numbers. Not the secondary numbers. Not the pitch data. Not the eye test.
NOTHING.
The obvious answer is the right one.
