Every day this month I am going to tweet about a use case for music + crypto.
31 days of music + crypto ideas.
1. A use case
2. Example architecture
3. Existing thinking and projects working on the idea (if applicable)
Day 1: Payment Splits 👇
@MusicBefore Very murky! If it solely on TikTok where a brand “uses this sound” around its content then it certainly devalues music.
I’d like to think major brands liaise with labels and publishers to clear properly and for wider rights but I suspect it’s not always the case.
Under SoundCloud’s “fan-powered” model, if a user paying $10 a month only listens to five artists, those five artists will get an equal split of that $10 — after SoundCloud takes its cut — no matter how many times the user listens to each of them. https://t.co/946Q0W9oEm
@Lucywwatson The UK housing market is broken! When a govt intervenes to prop up the market prices you have to wonder. The problem has always been supply and demand. HM Treasury needs to fix the demand from property portfolios harder than the tax relief changes 2017/2018.
On that rare occasion the world of royalties is on industry lips, let’s celebrate this classic ode to the songwriting and @PRSforMusic cheques.

MBW has reviewed a transcript of the DCMS Select Committee. In a non-stop conversation across approximately 1hr 45 minutes, the word 'songwriter' was mentioned just three times: Twice by @AlexDaviesJones and once by Universal's David Joseph.
@KevinBrennanMP@crispinhunt @CommonsDCMS The confusion may come from where your treatment talks of £1 of profit so in your example 550,001 of royalty earning for the artist to see £1. That’s 458.3m streams at £0.005 per stream. In line with the £5K per million streams.
@crispinhunt But the DSPs have paid out digital breakage meaning any algorithm they’ve tried to assist meeting the minimum guarantee hasn’t overcome consumer choice. That and the level of minimum guarantee is pushing DSPs to perform surely? Effects on indie share is another story.
@KevinBrennanMP with a record label investment of £550K, an artist would need 458.3m streams at 0.005p per stream at a royalty of 24% to make 550,001. The £1 payable to artist.
Record labels would earn a net of 1.7m. (550,001 / 24% less the initial investments)
