We are not saying Senators must be lawyers for prestige.
We are saying it because 90% of the work of the Senate of Kenya is law.
The Senate is not a marketplace for slogans.
It is not a theatre for noise.
It is a House created under the Constitution of Kenya 2010 to:
• Make laws affecting counties
• Protect devolution
• Oversee governors
• Safeguard public funds
• Defend constitutional order
Every day in the Senate is about interpreting clauses, amending bills, scrutinizing legal frameworks, and defending county interests within constitutional limits.
When 90% of your mandate is legal in nature, competence in law stops being optional it becomes strategic.
This is not discrimination against other professions. It is about seriousness.
You cannot send someone to a battlefield without understanding the weapons.
You cannot defend devolution without understanding the Constitution line by line.
Kenya does not need Senators who clap and issue press statements.
Kenya needs Senators who can stand on the floor, dismantle a flawed bill clause by clause, and defend counties using the law itself.
If the Senate is the guardian of devolution, then it must be armed with legal sharpness not political excitement.
This is about capacity.
This is about protecting counties.
This is about respecting the Constitution that is we are advocating for
