I lost track of how many times I said that while writing this week's AI recap.

→ OpenAI is back from the dead. GPT-5.5 just officially dethroned Opus 4.7 as the world's #1 coding model.

→ OpenAI also dropped Images 2.0. New #1 image model on the leaderboard. Hands. Text. Both finally work in the same image. The thing every model has been failing at for two years.

→ China officially caught up. DeepSeek V4 and Kimi K2.6 hit Opus 4.7 level performance. Both fully open source. Both a fraction of the cost. The two-horse race is now a four-horse race.

→ Xai signed a deal to acquire Cursor for up to $60B if they co-build a Claude Code killer with Grok. A coding tool that started two years ago is now worth more than most car companies.

→ Tim Cook stepped down as Apple CEO. John Ternus takes over. A hardware lifer running Apple as the company pivots into the AI gadget era. The succession was never going to be a software person.

→ OpenAI released Chronicle. It silently watches your screen and builds context on what you're working on. The era of explaining yourself to AI is ending. The AI just knows.

→ OpenAI also shipped Hermes. Workspace agents that live inside your Slack, your Linear, your email. You describe a job in plain English and it ships. The work you used to delegate to a teammate is now work you delegate to ChatGPT.

→ Google and Amazon put $45B into Anthropic to help ship Claude Mythos. That's the price of staying in the race.

→ Google released TPU V8. The first chip that puts them in real position to take the GPU crown from Nvidia. The infrastructure war just became a three-way fight.

Six months ago, OpenAI looked cooked. China looked behind. Apple looked locked in. Nvidia looked untouchable. Cursor was a coding tool.

Every one of those statements is now wrong.

The map gets redrawn every week now.
