Weirdly, Iranian embassy in Pretoria notified us, Ukrainian diplomats, about opening a book of condolences in memory of ayatollah Khamenei and the military leadership of Iran.
I decided to respond - and do it in a public way. The letter explains why.
Your Excellency,
Mr. Ambassador,
Since you notified the Embassy of Ukraine of the book of condolences for deceased Ayatollah Khamenei and Iran’s military leadership, I feel compelled to remind you the following.
As military allies of the Russian Federation, the deceased leaders of Iran had on their hands the blood of thousands of Ukrainian citizens – men and women, children and elderly – killed with the help of the infamous Iran-made “Shahed” drones and other military know-how so eagerly provided to Russia by your government. Your leaders were complicit in bringing endless grief to Ukrainian civilians.
Being a person of faith, I try not to rejoice in the death of other people, even those who chose to be tormentors of my country that did nothing bad to theirs. But as someone who has spent three years to the tune of Iran-created machines of death howling every night in the sky over Kyiv and other peaceful Ukrainian cities, I cannot help but wish for every culprit to meet the justice they deserve. If not by human law, then in the face of God Almighty.
Ambassador, I do not know you personally and have no grudge against you. Sometimes good diplomats must speak for bad leaders and their policies. But I hope you understand that I won’t express condolences for someone whose death I do not mourn.
Sincerely,
Dr. Olexander Scherba
Ambassador
Today is March 1st, seen as the first day of spring in Ukraine.
Again, the Russians tried to freeze us into submission over winter.
Again, they failed.
We still stand. And we will keep standing, because we know the cost of defeat.
We are Ukrainians. We will not surrender. 🇺🇦
@MalcontentmentT I. Appreciate. You.
I never let you know I see you and your posts. But I’m always along for the info-ride. Thank you for the constant reporting…
and, sometimes, the chuckle 🤭 … 😂🤣😂
Ian McKellen reads a poem called The First Letter to the Corinthians.
It was written by Artur Dron, Ukrainian Defender, writer, poet.
Please listen to it. These words are powerful and true.
"Love digs trenches and lives in them, gnawing on ice from a hacked up plastic bottle. When it suffers thirst at minus 20, love goes out on combat duty, enters firing positions with hernias, fever, prostatitis, with vast concussions, asthma, and allergies, with a high probability of not making it back.
And sometimes love closes its friends' eyes, wraps them in sleeping bags, and carries them away. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease.
Where there are tongues, they will be still. Where there is knowledge, it will pass away. Because sometimes when the shelling ceases, friends close love's eyes, wrap it in sleeping bags, and carry it away.
And then it passes on to the living."
(I've quoted my post with another essay by Artur Dron. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend that one, as well.)
📹: Ukraine WOW
U2 just dropped a powerful new video — filmed with Ukraine’s Khartiia unit in Kharkiv, a city on the frontline.
Watch it. This is music made where history is unfolding.
At this time, 4 years ago, Russia began a full-scale war against Ukraine
Around 05:07 Kyiv time (06:07 Moscow time), 15 minutes after Vladimir Putin's televised address, Russian troops launched missile strikes on targets near Kyiv, and on Kharkiv — strikes with long-range artillery.
Reports of explosions came from near Odessa, Dnipro, Mariupol, Kramatorsk, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Airports in Boryspil, Ozerne, Kulbakin, Chuhuiv, Kramatorsk, and Chernobayevka were subjected to missile and artillery attacks.
Representatives of the US Department of Defense stated that the Russians launched more than 100 missiles — short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and sea-based missiles. According to estimates, 75 Russian bombers were involved in the attack.
At the same time, a ground offensive began from three directions along the entire border from the Zhytomyr region (from Belarus) to Luhansk and from annexed Crimea.
We will not forget. We will not forgive.
Today marks 4 years since Russias unprovoked and full scale invasion of Ukraine. This is tribute I made to the Ukrainian Air Force and its pilots.
Slava ukrani 🇺🇦
February 24, 2022.
Before dawn had fully broken, missiles were already striking the military airfield in Vasylkiv near Kyiv - home of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, the unit tasked with defending the capital’s skies.
The first to rise into the air was 25 year old Senior Lieutenant Viacheslav Radionov.
While the enemy tried to destroy Ukrainian aircraft on the ground, Radionov took off into a sky already turning hostile.
He helped ensure the organization of combat flights and the take-off of other pilots, knowing every second mattered. Kyiv depended on them getting airborne.
He did not wait. He did not hesitate. He went first.
In the sky above Vasylkiv, he entered an unequal battle against three enemy aircraft.
As he engaged them, his fellow pilots were able to lift off and continue the defense of the capital.
He held the line in the air so others could rise behind him.
Then communication was lost.
It was his first combat flight.
It was his last.
His aircraft was later found. He had ejected.
His mother said that even if he had known how it would end, he would have done the same.
Vyacheslav was born into a family of pilots. Flying was in his blood.
He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine.
When the enemy believed they could silence our air force in a single strike, Viacheslav Radionov proved them wrong.
He was the first in the air.
He fought so others could fly.
He gave his life so Kyiv would stand.
Eternal memory. 🕯️

👊🏼An important reminder, many seem to be “conveniently” forgetting. 👇🏼
The Budapest Memorandum, was given as “security guarantees” to Ukraine in 1994, for which Ukraine gave up a variety of weapons, including their nuclear arsenal, (which was the third-largest nuclear arsenal in the world) & dozens of jets.
For that, Ukraine was given “security guarantees”, assurances that were to secure Ukrainian sovereignty, and the independence of Ukraine.
Security assurances without enforcement are simply words on paper, another “pinky promise”.
Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for written promises.
Promises that means absolutely nothing to the aggressors, and clearly is not enforced by the allies when red lines are crossed.
Ukraine has all reason to be skeptical to such security guarantees, because they are the ones who have had to fight alone, again & again, against the same aggressor, while the enforcers of the guarantees did absolutely nothing to assist and, again & again, completely ignored russias dishonesty, crimes, violations and cruelty.
To those who still don’t understand: how unjust, and frankly, utterly tone-deaf, it is to ask the victims of this war, those under constant attack and bombardment, to make compromises in exchange for something they have already learned cannot be relied upon, while nothing is demanded of the actual aggressor — whose violations and crimes are still ignored and go unpunished, with zero consequences — I hope this helps you understand that:
Justice cannot begin by asking the victim to surrender!
Sovereignty is not a bargaining chip.
And more than anything, I hope this helps you understand why Ukraine will never again mistake assurances for protection. Ukraine shall not disarm itself twice!
Stop asking the people defending their nation to; give in & give up, when that is exactly what we should be pressuring & demanding of the aggressors!
They ripped out his teeth and eyelids… and said he died of a blood clot
This is not a story from history books — it’s what a Ukrainian boy told us about his friend who didn’t survive Russian torture.
In my interview with @CNN , I spoke about how Russia’s war targets not only our land but also our children — their identity, their minds, and their future. Our report Return Every Child exposes the systematic indoctrination, abduction, and brutalization of Ukrainian children under occupation.
These are not isolated crimes. They are part of a deliberate strategy to erase a generation.
📹 Watch the full interview to hear the truth the world must not ignore — and share it so more people understand what is happening to Ukraine’s children.

Hey Fellas!
Not really related to aid or Ukraine, but I'm conducting a study as part of my bachelor's degree about the demographic, internal, cultural & social aspects of NAFO - something that has yet to be studied in any great detail.
