Thankful for the successful completion of the 3 - day RT Hon. ADEBO OGUNDOYIN STUDENTS' LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT, facilitated by the University of Ibadan Students' Representatives Council.

The summit hosted over 600 delegates from 60+ schools in southwest Nigeria, including Kwara.

It was a great privilege for me which gave me a personal sense of fulfillment as a person and as a state legislator to address our dynamic and energetic Nigerian students from across all tertiary institutions in the South West at the Maiden Adebo Ogundoyin Legislative Summit, 2024.

It was a powerhouse summit where the Executive Governor of Oyo state, H.E Engr Seyi Makinde, two term Governor and former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, the national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC and other eminent Nigerians were present to speak directly to Nigerian youths in our various tertiary institutions in the South West.

In my address, I acknowledged the numerical strength of the Nigerian youth and how it could be leveraged upon to build the Nigeria of our dream.

I equally stated the three main objectives of this summit to include:
(1) To Educate students about the legislative process and its significance in shaping national development.

(2) To Encourage students to critically analyze the impact of existing legislations on various aspects of the society, such as education, healthcare, and the economy.

(3) To Inspire students to actively engage in civic participation and advocate for quality legislation that addresses pressing issues and contribute to sustainable development.

And I urged participants to play their part in the overall nation building contrary to just sitting on the fence and lamenting over why and how things happen within the political arena.

Yesterday, I was privileged to serve as one of the panelists at the Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin Student Legislative Summit of the University of Ibadan Student Representative Council, where we engaged in a vital discussion on "Synergy between the legislative and executive arms for effective governance."

During our session, I underscored the crucial role of quality legislatures, emphasizing that they are the cornerstone of crafting impactful legislation.

I highlighted the interdependent nature of the executive and legislative branches, emphasizing that effective governance requires collaboration and understanding between them.

Moreover, I stressed the significance of upholding the rule of law and maintaining the separation of powers, as outlined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as altered, to foster synergy among government arms.

Addressing the students, I urged them to embrace the responsibility afforded by their current positions in their institutions, emphasizing the importance of integrity in shaping their future political journeys. Drawing from my own experience as a former Students' Union President, I emphasized the profound impact our present actions have on shaping tomorrow's political landscape.

Yesterday, I featured in the maiden edition of Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin’s Students Legislative Summit themed the Roles of Quality Legislation in Nation Building.

The summit was a nest to incubate future leaders and redirect the focus of the youth toward nation-building amidst the uncertainties of our present-day nation to a stable future where the rights, voices, and yearnings of the unprivileged will matter.

During the panel session, I spoke on the roles and impacts of the legislature/ Legislative arm and also responded to questions on the need for quality legislation.

The role of legislators is vital for the functioning of democracy, as they act as the representatives of the people and work towards enacting legislation that serves the best interests of the nation or their respective states and in some cases, their constituencies.

The primary functions of a legislator include: • Making laws about issues affecting public interest; • Representing the opinions and interests of citizens and the nation as a whole; and, • Overseeing government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, Constituent Services, Budgetary Responsibilities, Collaboration, and Negotiation: Facilitation of Constituency Projects among others.

However, I commend the convener, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin’s thoughtfulness in putting this up to chart a new future for the youths and posterity who are the leaders of tomorrow.

The 2day Students Legislative Summit powered by me was rounded off today.

Glory be to the Alpha and Omega of the Universe for making the Summit a huge success.

Highpoint of today's event was the division of the delegates to different syndicate groups where they appraised, discussed as well as shared their perspectives on critical sectors of national development.

I must admit that the delegates made the most of the opportunity as they made useful inputs and valuable contributions in their various syndicate discussions .

Special thanks to all our highly revered keynote speakers, panelists and moderators for enriching the Summit with their repository of knowledge and wealth of experience.

We will aggregate all the suggestions and recommendations from the Summit, and come up with a working document that will be submitted to policy makers in the country
