FSD First Impressions (v14.3.10):
~100 miles / about 3 hours driven.
Driving itself is absurdly composed. The only critical intervention was FSD trying to parallel park in a red fire lane. Both are true.
BETTER:
• Smoothness is where we’ve come to expect: no jitters, no harsh braking, quick and responsive. Comfortable the whole way.
• The 14.3.9 stop-sign miss I hit last build: not re-experienced so far on .10.
• Stop sign peeking around a building: saw it early, slowed hard but smoothly. Nice catch.
• Dead four-way with flashing red, nobody around: treated it correctly like a stop. Perfect.
• Left through a yellow: confident and smooth. Older builds were overly scared and wanted to abort. This one proceeded the way I wanted.
• Cross traffic inching from a stop onto a one-way: leaned away, gave space, felt natural.
• Deep pothole / water dip with uncertain depth: crept through carefully. Past versions would have plowed it. Exactly what I would have done.
• Speed bumps in the ferry lot: fine. Overcast, bright, no rain.
• Second successful street repark in a real open spot: handled cleanly.
• Pedestrians and a motorcycle crossing ahead of an intersection: plenty of space, careful.
STILL NEEDS WORK:
• Fire / emergency curb parking. Destination with street parking selected, all legal spots taken. Gap at the front of the row is painted red for emergency vehicles. FSD tried to parallel park there. That’s illegal and a ticket. Critical parking disengagement. Not a maps-pin problem. Vision/FSD parking judgment.
• Garage exit routing still broken. Same as prior builds: tries to loop behind the building instead of driving straight out to the street. Annoying every single day. Maps data, not the driving stack.
• Garage approach still broken. Sitting looking at the open garage entrance ~8 car lengths ahead, maps reroutes around the entire complex and FSD tries to follow with a left around the building.
• Construction-moved freeway lanes. Maps still thinks the old alignment is the freeway. Car decides you’re off-route and wants a U-turn / roundabout path to “get back on.” You’re already on the freeway. Time waste, not a crash risk.
• Preferred route home still never sticks. I divert and remap the same alternate constantly. Sometimes the alt path shows, sometimes it doesn’t. Destination repark memory works; preferred route memory does not.
• Second-floor garage parking still needs coaxing. Have to goose the accelerator so it doesn’t stop on floor 1, then take over for my actual spot. Spot memory still missing.
• Road-hazard / flood-channel / pothole avoidance: didn’t hit those edges on this drive. Still expect them until 15. No notes in this release that would change that.
WHAT I WANT NEXT:
Maps that survive construction and unmapped garage geometry would erase most of my daily pain. Preferred-route memory that actually learns from forced diversions. Red-curb / fire-lane recognition before the car commits to a parallel park. Remembered home spot and floor so I’m not babysitting the last 30 seconds of every trip.
BOTTOM LINE:
On the open road this still feels like a chauffeur most humans can’t match. What remains is mostly navigation data and a few parking edge cases, and one of those edge cases today was a fire lane.
@samkohl Doesn't work for me half the time anyways, even after trying to fix it multiple times. I still find myself entering my pin multiple times a day every day.
It'll be nice to have a reliable way to access my device without having to type my ping or password every time.
A humanoid is a capital good on a scale that changes the constraint. It lengthens production and raises what labor and land can turn out, which is the abundance Elon is pointing at.
A person supplies about 2,000 hours a year. A robot on a 168 hour week supplies about 8,700. His floor of 1 billion within 10 years, priced in the low 10,000s, equals about 4 billion full time equivalents against a world labor force of 3.5 billion.
The 10 billion at 15 years is an order of magnitude past that.
Robots building robots still require saving, because energy, materials, and machines have to be bid into that line.
Expected abundance holds for ordinary wants which is what matters for people as consumers. Housing, food, care, and routine medicine get repriced toward energy and materials until a household’s budget stops being what limits them.
An owner running 100s or 1,000s of agents earns the return on that capital stock, which is also how universal high income shows up as purchasing power.
Money prices remain the way to allocate whatever is still scarce, that is energy, locations, raw materials. At least in the short term.
Energy is the binding input, and settling more than one planet adds land, minerals, and generation beyond a single world.
TLDR: (1) More energy. (2) Multiplanetary doesn’t hurt.
Technology is the greatest equalizer. Net worth no longer decides which phone you carry. Everyone uses the same iPhone.
You no longer need a fortune for a chauffeur. Tesla Full Self-Driving does that.
Need a personal assistant? Spin up as many Grok bots as you like. Each is as dedicated as the last.
Not far in the future, Optimus will push this further: the same quality of care for everyone, better with every software update.
Biggest wishes for the next two weeks:
• iPhone Action Button / Shortcuts deep link into a specific bot (voice or chat)
• More real plugins / API connectors for personal tools. Browser fallback is lossy. Examples that keep falling back: Monarch, Indeed, Apple Health, AllTrails, Audible, Expedia, TripAdvisor, Resy
• Inline HTML preview in chat for Bot-generated HTML
• Native Apple hooks: iMessage, Calendar/iCal, Health
• Family plan where you can share specific bots with someone in the household
• Google Calendar connector: real "none" for reminders. Right now omitting overrides still uses calendar defaults, and an empty list gets ignored
Note: the new voice and interruption is great.
I did notice that it keeps trying to respond almost too fast 😂
I pause for a split second to collect my thought mid-sentence and it tries to chime in and I end up interrupting it.
Extra pause before chiming in when a user is mid-thought would be nice if possible.
Best of luck! Stuff is really looking useful. 🙌🏽
@thejefflutz@Apple I literally just got the same thing today and had the same exact reaction. It was for a recent watch purchase, but same experience otherwise.
Such an odd move. Almost a couple weeks old at this point.
Biggest thing: we need way more real plugins and API connectors for personal tools.
So many of the apps people actually live in every day still force the browser path. That path is extremely lossy, costs more tokens, is slower, and doesn’t always work. More effort needs to go into plugins and connections if Bot is going to be effective for real day to day use.
Examples that keep failing or falling back to the browser: Monarch, Indeed, Apple Health, AllTrails, Audible, Expedia, TripAdvisor, Resy… the list is long. Plugins beat scraping.
Inline HTML preview in chat.
When a Bot generates or attaches an HTML page, chat currently shows the raw source instead of a rendered preview. Please add an in-chat HTML preview so dashboards, reports, and one-off pages can be reviewed without exporting or opening outside the thread.
Native Apple ecosystem integrations (iMessage, Calendar / iCal, and Health).
Competing agent products already offer first-class hooks into these surfaces. For many users, messages, calendar, and health data live primarily in Apple’s stack. Without a supported connection path, Grok Bot stays useful for web/desktop workflows but can’t fully participate in day-to-day personal ops.
@leerob@bot Could you imagine having a Family subscription and being able to “share” specific bots mutually with a family member? A shared Planner/coordinator bot, Budget bot, family tech support, Vacation bot…etc.
No sooner did my parents (70+ years old, vets) sign up for @XMoney, then just a few short days later their account got “suspended”.
No details on why or what caused it. They appealed, tried to get assistance understanding why and the appeal was denied with no clear explanation or support path. They are now stepping away from X money and don’t expect to reconsider.
X has a lot of work to do to win trust of people especially as they add financial services to the platform.
